Filming for the fourth Bridget Jones film kicked off last month as Renée Zellweger was spotted back in character for the first time on the streets of London.

The actress, 55, has starred as the unlucky-in-love diarist in all three of the movies, 2001’s Bridget Jones’ Diary, 2004’s Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and 2016’s Bridget Jones’ Baby.

And now she is back for Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy which is due to be released by Universal film on US platform Peacock on Valentine’s Day 2025 while internationally, the flick will be released in cinemas.

As well as Renée’s obvious return, Hugh Grant’s comeback has also been made official – after his love rat character Daniel Cleaver’s death was falsified in 2016’s third installment.

And as filming commences we take a look at all the members of the cast who have been spotted in scenes so far.

Renée Zellweger

She’s back playing the most iconic character of her career as Renée, 55, has stepped back into her role as Bridget.

The much-loved journalist, who is now a mother to two children, finds herself a widow after human rights lawyer Mark Darcy – played in the first three films by Colin Firth – dies while trying to save a client abroad.

And her hundreds of diary entries about being unable to find love, The Mail on Sunday revealed that Bridget will have three suitors desperate to settle down with in the upcoming film.

She will be in a love tangle with Hugh Grant’s Daniel Cleaver, a much younger man named Rockstar, played by One Day heartthrob Leo Woodall, and 12 Years A Slave star Chiwetel Ejiofor’s character, PE teacher Mr Walker.

Bridget has also given up her famous bachelorette pad in London’s Borough Market in favour of a family home in leafy Hampstead, north London.

There, she ditches her calamitous job with a TV company to struggle on the school run. Comical scenes will show her scrambling to keep up with what other mums in the playground are wearing, as her scattier existence contrasts with theirs.

Leo Woodall

Bridget’s new toyboy love interest will be One Day star Leo Woodall, whose character has not yet been named.

The start of the film will follow Bridget as a single mum trying to navigate a new world of social media and dating apps after Mark’s death.

A source told The Sun: ‘Bridget is going to be a real cougar in the new film and she’ll be seen starting a relationship with a much younger character played by Leo.

‘He was thrilled about landing the part and will have a major role as her love interest in Mad About The Boy.

‘Bridget is a single mum trying to navigate a new world of social media and dating apps after Mark’s death, so she’s definitely going to end up in a pickle.

‘Hugh Grant is back as Daniel Cleaver, so there will be a love triangle between Bridget’s older flame and this much younger new man.’

Chiwetel Ejiofor

Chiwetel Ejiofor plays another of Bridget’s love interests in the film, as he takes on the role of Mr Walker, Bridget’s PE teacher.

Bridget, now a mother of two, will become smitten with Mr Walker who teaches at her son’s school.

Looking smart for filming, the 12 Years A Slave star wore a double breasted navy suit, while his teacher ID badge hung around his neck.

A film source said: ‘Never before has Bridget had so many choices of men. It is going to be brilliant, all three are very different.

‘Chiwetel, as the teacher, is the more secure and safe one and of the three certainly the best choice but then you have the hunky rockstar who Bridget meets on social media.

‘He is much, much younger than her but she adores him, though their age gap makes things difficult.

‘But will Bridget be able to give up the temptation of Daniel Cleaver, who has been in and out of her life since she was in her 20s?’

Isla Fisher

Isla Fisher put on an animated display as she wielded a large water gun while filming for the romcom after it was revealed she has joined the cast.

The Australian actress plays a friend of Bridget’s in the upcoming film and was dressed in an eye-catching gold frock for filming.

Isla was seen filming a scene with a group of school children who she playfully aimed the water gun at.

The star is reportedly channelling her single life following split with husband Sacha Baron Cohen into her latest role.

According to WHO Magazine, the actress is drawing from her own personal experience to bring authenticity and depth to her character.

‘Isla’s real-life is inspiring her,’ a source told the publication.

‘She’s drawing on her own experiences and channelling them into this character.’

Sally Phillips

Sally Phillips who plays Bridget’s best friend Shazza is also back for the fourth film.

The actress, 54, appeared in the first two films and accompanied Bridget on her trip to Thailand where she falls for a local man who it turns out plants drugs in a gift given to her.

Sally previously spoke of becoming friends with American actress Renée, who famously gained 17 pounds and spoke only with a British accent in preparation for the role.

‘It was really weird’, said Sally, ‘I’ve made quite good friends with her during the filming, I realised towards the end when she suddenly lost a stone in the last week and started talking in a Texan accent at the wrap party, I’d made friends with Bridget, not Renée.’

She laughed: ‘I felt like those women must feel who’ve had a relationship with an undercover cop, a bit deceived and weirded out. But I think it was genius actually [to cast her]. There were lots of people up for that part.’
