Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth were guests on the May 24 episode of the Kelly Clarkson Show.
While visiting the daytime talk show, the two stars promoted their movie Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and revealed it took more than four hours of hair and makeup to transform into their characters.
Anya, 28, told host Kelly about simulating the appearance of a shaved head: ‘Unbelievable work from our hair and makeup department. That took five hours and it was seamless.’
The Florida-born actress admitted her willingness to actually shave her head, but said director George Miller ‘fell in love with my hair,’ insisting she keep her long blonde tresses.
When asked how they kept busy while sitting through the hours-long process, the Queen’s Gambit sensation answered: ‘You surround yourself with really good people and then you’re giggling the whole time.’

For his part, Hemsworth, 40, shared, ‘I’m not great at sitting still, especially at three or four in the morning.’
On the other hand, he noted, ‘But to have that transformation and not quite recognize who’s staring back at you helps to get into the headspace.’
The Australian heartthrob added, ‘Like anything, the sets, the costume, the prosthetics, hair and makeup — they all help tell the story you’re trying to have resonate with an audience. I was thankful for it.’
Taylor-Joy also commented on the use of artificial intelligence in the film to achieve similarity to a child actress who plays a younger version of her character.
‘They mixed our faces together and at the beginning of the movie it’s 35% and then by the time I pick her up it’s gone up to 80%,’ she explained.
‘I never thought I’d stare at my eyes and mouth on the face of another person,’ the actress marveled.
As she discussed the ever-growing use of AI, Anya said, ‘There’s a reason our industry went on strike.
‘It is something that is frightening and I think if you’re going to use it, you have to be honest about it and it always has to be consensual. It’s the lack of consent in anything in life that is the scary thing.’

Earlier this month she spoke with Variety about the prequel, revealing the shocking request Miller regularly made as they shot the film.
She explained: ‘We’d do takes where he’d be like, “Do it again with your mouth closed.” He has a thing about my mouth. He thinks when my mouth is open, I look too young.’
Anya added, ‘This is the wasteland, and any outbreak of emotion is punished by death….
‘Any empathy is punished by death — any kindness, really. It all made sense to me. I think the restrictions that were placed on me by George did create a radiation off the character, because she is being suppressed continuously throughout the film.’
