Matthew Macfadyen has revealed how his wife Keeley Hawes threatened him with a divorce for a very unusual reason.
The Succession star, 50, celebrated his 21st wedding anniversary last month to Keeley, 49, having first met in 2002.
Matthew and Keeley are proud parents to daughter Maggie, 20, and son Ralph, 19, while Matthew is also a step-dad to Keeley’s son Myles, 25, from her first marriage.
However, despite their harmonious marriage, Matthew has admitted he was threatened with divorce from his wife when it came to Succession.
He was shooting scenes for the hit series in America’s Southwest when he attempted to immerse himself in the local culture.
Line Of Duty star Keeley had reservations, though.

Speaking to the Travel Secrets podcast, Matthew explained: ‘We went to Sante Fe [in New Mexico] to the high desert.’
He continued: ‘I remember ringing Keeley and saying, “Do you think I’d get away with buying cowboy boots?”
‘She was like, “No, if you want to stay married”.’
Matthew concluded by admitting: ‘I would have looked dreadful.’
On Monday, the happy couple stepped out for a rare red carpet date for the premiere of Netflix’s Death By Lighting.
Keeley looked sunning in a red, highneck dress which featured distressed fabric and a semi-sheer skirt.
She teamed her outfit with a pair of classic black stilettos and styled her hair straight.
While Matthew opted for a brown double breasted blazer which he teamed with a striped tie.

Keeley was newly married to cartoonist Spencer, and mother to baby son Myles, when she first met Matthew in 2002 on the set of Spooks.
Matthew later admitted he fell for Keeley while shooting the BBC spy drama, but clarified nothing happened between them until her split with Spencer in May 2002.
He told the Mail on Sunday in 2005: ‘We weren’t having an affair and it was a slow process. But I knew the effect she had on me. She’s gorgeous. Everyone who meets her will tell you the same thing.’
While Keeley has also confessed to developing feelings for Matthew on the Spooks set, telling Vanity Fair in 2022: ‘Matthew just came straight out with it and said “I love you” in the rain one day. I thought, “Oh dear, here we go.”‘
Her divorce from Spencer was finalised in 2004, and she and Matthew married later that same year in an intimate ceremony at the Richmond registry office, before welcoming first child Maggie a month later.
