‘I always say my family is my biggest privilege. My mum and dad were both really big believers in being independent.’
‘Because of how we grew up and where we grew up my dad would always say to us “you never know if you’re going to have the money to hire somebody to do something.”
‘You need to learn, it you need to do it, you don’t wanna be stuck somewhere with a leaky pipe or whatever it is, so he did teach us the bare basics of nearly everything. We were very, very lucky in that sense in our childhood, thanks dad!’
Stacey grew up in Dagenham with her dad David, a photographer and her mum Fiona, a nurse. She has a brother and sister, as well as one step sister, two step brothers and a half-brother after her parents split and moved onto other relationships when Stacey was nine.
Stacey’s latest DIY project is her new Channel 4 series Renovation Rescue, which premiered last week.
The show sees the handy star help people who have been left in the lurch by cowboy builders, teaching them her DIY hacks to save money and get their renovations back on track.
Renovation Rescue is produced by Hollywood star Reese Witherspoon’s production company Hello Sunshine, with Stacey revealing she was flattered to be involved.
‘It’s not like she called me up,’ she insisted. ‘In my dreams it would happen like that. She wanted to have her first UK show.’
