Dani - who famously closed her tooth gap at the judges’ request - beat 12 other aspiring models to be crowned 'America's Next Top Model' in 2006, landing a lucrative contract with a top modeling agency.
Yet the dream she was sold didn't come to fruition, with Dani revealing on the Netflix doc: ‘I was told no one wanted to book me for their shows because I was viewed as this reality star. I knew very early on that Top Model has a stigma.’
Dani later claimed that show host Tyra Banks was aware the girls would struggle because of their reality star label, alleging: '[Tyra] told me that “I knew there were certain doors that you couldn’t even get open because you did Top Model, and I did nothing about it."'

The catchphrase for season six of ANTM was 'Fairy Tales Come True', but that couldn't be further from the truth for winner Dani Evans.
Dani was famously urged to have the gap in her teeth closed by the show's judges, despite her being proud of her 'signature' look.
Speaking on Reality Check, Dani recalled: 'I decided to play the game and got my gap closed. It's my life and it was toyed with, consciously. And me saying no and then going against that, it's invasive.'
After the show, Dani moved into a modelling apartment in New York, but despite having won a modelling contract with Ford Models, she claimed the energy she received was 'cold'.
Describing herself as the ‘black sheep,’ she revealed she went ‘months’ without a single casting.

Dani said on Reality Check: ‘I lived in the models apartment with Chanel Iman, who went on to become a very prominent Top Model.
'I remember her coming home one morning. She was like, “I finally asked our agent why you never have castings. She was like, well, we have to treat Dani differently because she came from Top Model.” That was a hard, hard pill to swallow.’
Tyra later admitted to Dani that she knew appearing on ANTM would close some doors for her but stated: 'I always rode the fence with you.'
Dani recalled: 'And that’s when I said, "respectfully, you have no f***ing idea how painful it has been for me."
’To have her, a black woman, say to me over the phone, “I knew you were struggling and I did nothing about it”? What?

'You don’t gotta support me, you don’t even gotta like me, but don’t see me in my suffering and walk past me. That’s so f***ed up.’
Dani ultimately walked away from the modelling industry, which she said was 'the best decision of my life.'

'No one wants to take us serious as models. I am sure the show lost its credibility in producing a top model somewhere between making three cycles a year and posing on roller coasters.
'Tyra wasn’t there when the cameras stopped rolling, nor did she reach out.'
CariDee - who revealed that she too struggled with addiction - added: 'Now this isn’t Tyra’s fault... we are all capable of becoming anything…
