Tyla has addressed recent Britney Spears outfit comparisons after she took to the Coachella stage during weekend two on Friday.
The Water songstress, 23 – who left little to the imagination while performing amid weekend one of the annual festival – sported an outfit this week which has been likened to the one Spears wore at the 2001 MTV VMAs.
However, the star jumped to X to blast comparisons and denied her ensemble had been inspired by the Princess of Pop.
‘Love her but i just thought the outfit was fly…no inspo,’ Tyla wrote in reply to a tweet that has since-been deleted.
Another social media user said of the singer, ‘I personally think she is a copycat and too full of herself.’ The Grammy winner responded to the comment by writing, ‘Personally I think you should stfu.’
While performing on weekend two of Coachella, Tyla sported a pair of micro denim shorts that contained a tasseled beaded fringe as well as green feathery details.

She also wore a vibrant green bralette top with purple floral details and a silver body chain that wrapped around her toned midriff and chest.
Tyla opted for long extensions as well as a bold makeup look that included hot pink shadow around her eyes.
The songstress completed the look by slipping into a pair of knee-high, gray boots that were made of a crocodile-embossed material.
Back in 2001, Britney appeared at the Video Music Awards and belted out lyrics to her hit track I’m A Slave 4 U.
The performance became iconic when she began to carry a large snack over her shoulders as she continued to sing.
Spears also wore a green bralette top as well as dark blue shorts that were decked out with colorful embellishments and fabric that flowed down on the sides.
Other fans took to X to share differing opinions on Tyla’s ensemble at Coachella, with one penning, ‘girl you a fraud get out of here.’
Another typed, ‘Your stylist was probably inspired but u thought the outfit was cute,’ and one shared, ‘Maybe not you but SOMEONE was inspired!’

‘Sorry how does that make sense? You thought it was fly so you wore something similar.. is that not inspiration,’ a fan commented

One added, ‘Someone was clearly inspired. Cut the lies girl,’ and another wrote, ‘Is this a joke? It’s literally the same outfit’

‘Your stylist was definitely Britney inspired lol,’ one X user typed out, while a fan also shared, ‘Um it’s literally identical tho??’
Another penned, ‘That’s what inspo “inspiration” means. You liked the outfit that means you were inspired by it.’
However, other fans came to Tyla’s defense and one wrote, ‘honestly i think it was a happy coincidence because it turned out to be so iconic.’
‘Exactly cause the performance was not giving britney at all. its TYLA. its just a fit,’ another added.
While the Been Thinking songstress denied that she took inspiration from Britney’s past look, Tyla has previously discussed being a fan of Spears.
During an interview with Billboard last month in March, she was questioned which women in the music industry have been ‘influential’ to her.

‘Tems is a big one. What she’s been able to do has been very inspiring. Britney [Spears], Whitney Houston, Aaliyah,’ the star answered.
Last year, Tyla also addressed being compared to the Toxic hitmaker – such as the music video for her song Water.
‘Honestly, when people bring up these references, most of the time there was never a reference,’ the performer told Dazed Magazine.
She further explained to the publication, ‘It’s never, “Make the video look completely like this.” It’s getting boring now.’
On April 11, Tyla also performed a set amid weekend one of the 2025 Coachella Music Festival.
She turned heads wearing a white bralette top with one strap falling down her arm as well as micro shorts and ripped fishnet tights.
Last year, the star dropped her debut, self-titled studio album on March 22 which contained a total of 14 tracks.
While recently talking to Nylon earlier this month, the star discussed if a new album is in the works.
‘Every day I can be in the studio, I’m there. I’m working on the new project currently. I’m super excited because even though I love my debut album, I feel like a totally different person.’

She added, ‘Everything that has happened forced me to grow very fast. I’m also the type of person that gets bored very easily.
‘So I’m excited to see this new version of me and hear what it sounds like and just have fun with it – just bring back fun in music.’
When asked where she wants to be next year, Tyla replied, ‘I really want to be the best artist that I can be.
‘When you have a lot of pressure, it makes you feel like you need to live up to what people expect. A year from now, I want to be making whatever I want to make, doing whatever I want to do – regardless of the pressures.’
