Death In Paradise has been regular feature on British TV screens since its first episode in 2011.

And the crime comedy drama is returning for a brand new series on Sunday, which will mark its 100th episode.

The team will reunite on the idyllic Caribbean Island of Saint Marie and are tasked with more gripping murders to solve.

But as detectives have been replaced on the island over the years, so have some of the other original stars.

Here, MailOnline takes a look back at the series one cast – and what they are up to now.

Death In Paradise is returning for a 13th series on Sunday, which will see its 100th episode (L-R season one cast Danny John-Jules, Ben Miller, Sara Martins  and Fidel Best)

Ben Miller as DI Richard Poole

Known for being one half of the comedy duo Armstrong and Miller, Ben Miller (seen in 2011) originated the lead role of Detective Inspector Richard Poole in Death In Paradise

The star (seen in 2023), 57, played the detective who was assigned to the Caribbean island of Saint Marie to investigate the murder of the previous inspector

Known for being one half of the comedy duo Armstrong and Miller, Ben Miller originated the lead role of Detective Inspector Richard Poole in Death In Paradise.

The star, 57, played the detective who was assigned to the Caribbean island of Saint Marie to investigate the murder of the previous inspector.

But he actually studied natural sciences at Cambridge University before becoming an actor and later went on to do a PhD.

While at university he was involved in theatre – where he met Hollywood actress Rachel Weisz. The pair went on to date.

His career kicked off when he moved to London to pursue comedy and was introduced to fellow graduate Alexander Armstrong – the other half of Armstrong and Miller – in 1992.

Just two years later they performed their first show together at the Edinburgh Fringe and in 1997 a TV series was commissioned. Radio shows and further series followed and the pair became a smash hit.

Ben then went on to focus on acting, featuring in Steve Coogan’s first feature film The Parole Officer in 2001 and was sidekick to funny man Rowan Atkinson in 2003’s Johnny English.

After a steady stream of work over the next decade, Ben’s next big role came as DI Richard – who he played for the first two series of the BBC-French show.

‘It was the job of a lifetime but logistically I just didn’t feel I could continue,’ Ben said on leaving the role. DI Poole was murdered in the show and actor Kris Marshall arrived on the island for series three to investigate his death.

After Death in Paradise, Ben’s acting career continued to flourish, with films and presenting jobs aplenty. He even went on to become a children’s author.

Sara Martins as DS Camille Bordey

Detective Sergeant Camille Bordey, played by Sara Martins (seen in 2011), arrived on the island as an undercover investigator but her cover was blown in DI Poole's first investigation

Camille, played by Portugese-born French actress Sara Martins (seen in 2021), 46, was assigned to Honore Police after being exposed

Detective Sergeant Camille Bordey arrived on the island as an undercover investigator but her cover was blown in DI Poole’s first investigation.

Camille, played by Portugese-born French actress Sara Martins, 46, was assigned to Honore Police after being exposed.

For Sara, Camille was her comedy and British television debut role but she had previously performed in London’s Young Vic Theatre and in a French police show and crime series.

Sara played Camille from the first episode of the first series until the fourth of the fourth – as her character moved to Paris.

Despite loving the show, Sara said of her departure: ‘The only way to grow in life is to take risks, even if it means losing something you love, or leaving a place that’s comfortable.’

After leaving Death In Paradise, Sara continued her pattern of crime shows, appearing in two French detective series – La Loi d’Alexandre and Capitaine Marleau.

Sara returned to British TV screens in 2018 when she featured in the series Father Brown as the wife of criminal Flambeau.

That same year she played another police inspector in the television movie Un Mensonge Oublié and has seen appeared in several other French dramas.

In 2021, Sara returned to Deather In Paradise, reprising Camille for a two-episode appearance.

He was even part of the Whoniverse as he played founder of the Time Lord society in several Doctor Who audio plays.

As well as film and television, Don has starred in several stage shows over the years, including performing the titular role of King Lear.

Reviewing the show, The Telegraph said of Don: ‘Lear is the Everest of roles, and Don Warrington … ascends the cliff face with magnificent authority.’

Don also played the lead role of Joe Keller in an all-black revival of Arthur Miller’s play All My Sons, which critics described as ‘flawless’.

He even took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2008, where he was partnered with Lilia Kopylova. He made it to week five of the hit BBC show before being eliminated.

Most recently in 2023, Don continued his role of Commissioner Patterson in the Death In Paradise spin off show, Beyond Paradise.

His dancing career even saw him star in a the music video for What!’s The Edge of Heaven.

He is another of Death In Paradise’s stars to compete in Strictly Come Dancing, when he took to the floor with loved professional Amy Dowden in 2018.

As a former dancer himself, Danny thrived and earned the first 10 of the series before being eliminated in week 8.

However despite his successful career, Danny has been shrouded in controversy, as allegations he bullied Amy on the dancing show emerged.

Student films were Elizabeth’s way onto the screen and in 2006 she bagged the role of Julia in French film My Best Friend.

Her breakthrough role however was Catherine in the BBC drama. Catherine is the mother of Sara Martins’ character Camille and acts as the agony aunt for those on the island.
