Gary Shirley dropped the bombshell revelation during a guys trip that his teenage daughter Leah with ex Amber Portwood wanted to be adopted by his wife Kristina.
The season two episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter on Thursday showed Gary, 37, being candid during a ski trip to Michigan with only guys from the MTV franchise.
Gary during a conversation about their children spilled about the relationship between his daughter Leah, 15, and Amber, 34, and shared that they had not spoken to each other since Leah’s birthday that ended awkwardly.
‘I think it’s salvageable, but what Leah would need is her mom there all the time consistently,’ Gary said.
Gary said that his wife Kristina was the ‘best thing’ that ever happened to Leah and Tyler Baltierra, 32, agreed and called her a ‘saving angel’.

‘Yep, and Leah is, like, wanting to be adopted by Kristina,’ Gary said.
The other guys were shocked and asked if Amber knew about it and Gary shook his head no.
While the guys were playing beer pong, Tyler called his wife Catelynn, 32, and told her about Gary mentioning that Leah wanted to be adopted and how Amber doesn’t yet know about it.
‘Gary needs to tell her,’ Catelynn said.
She added: ‘You can’t just blindside her. When she does find out, that’s gonna trigger the f*** out of her. She might need some extra support.’
Tyler assured Catelynn that Amber was a ‘grown woman’ and could handle it.
Catelynn called Maci Bookout, 32, to share what she learned about Leah wanting Kristina to adopt her.
‘I love Gary to death, but that pisses me off because Gary shouldn’t be going around telling people s*** like this. Like, that’s not fair. This is a hard and sketchy situation,’ Maci said.

They both agreed the development was going to impact Amber’s mental health.
Maci in a confessional said that she and Catelynn might have to be the ones who tell Amber.
Gary earlier was shown talking to Kristina in the kitchen about the strained relationship between Leah and Amber. A flashback showed Leah lamenting losing contact with her mother due to Amber’s new boyfriend, Gary Wayt.
Gary shared a text with Kristina that Amber sent him claiming that she had reached out multiple times to Leah and begged to spend time with her only to be rejected.
Gary said that Amber should make the effort to connect even if Leah was pushing her away and Kristina agreed that Amber needed to be persistent.
‘Like, I do all the motherly things for Leah. I attend all of her cross country. I do all of her schooling. But sadly, I can’t fill that void in her heart of Amber. I can be the motherly figure, but she still has that hole,’ Kristina said.
‘I think that a lot of this stuff will weigh on her for the rest of her life,’ Gary said.
The episode also showed Briana DeJesus dealing with challenges at home after her mother left for rehab. She struggled with work and life balance picking up her daughters, Nova and Stella, from school.

She approached Nova’s father Devoin about helping with school pickup and he admitted that missing work would cause him to be homeless.
Briana considered alternate options and the girls liked the idea of switching to a closer school.
The went on a tour of the school and Briana while filling out an enrollment form asked her daughters if there was anyone they didn’t want to be authorized to pick them up. Stella responded that she didn’t want her father, Luis, to pick her up and later admitted that she hadn’t seen him in a long time and didn’t want to interact with him.
Briana later found a note in which Stella expressed her negative feelings about her dad and his absence. Briana confided in her sister Brittany about the note and acknowledged that both she and her daughter had paternal rejection issues.
Cheyenne Floyd, 31, during the episode called her husband Zach Davis, 33, while he was on the guys trip after a disturbing incident involving their daughter Ryder, six, at a play place.
Zach invited Ryder’s father Cory Wharton, 33, to join the conversation after Cheyenne said her daughter was crying.
Cheyenne said that her mother confronted a man after a boy called Ryder the n-word and the man told his son to apologize.
‘So, the little boy apologized, but he kept saying, ”no, she’s a liar, she’s a liar”,’ Cheyenne tearfully said.
Cheyenne said they walked away, but Ryder was still upset and she admitted Zach and Cory to feeling defeated as a mom.

They both supported her and Cory said they should talk about how to handle that in the future because it likely will happen again,.
‘Like, I’ve been called that my whole life. Anytime a white person saw me and wanted to hurt my feelings, what do you think they called me? Anytime someone wants to hurt me, that’s what they’re going to go to,’ Cory said.
‘I’ve dealt with it at her age. I’ve dealt with it young and I’ve dealt with it my whole life,’ Zach said.
