The Office reboot appears to be going forward.
Screenwriter Greg Daniels, who adapted The Office for American television from the UK version of the same-name series, is gathering a team of writers to explore ideas of a new show on Tuesday, according to Deadline.
It is likely that the new show will feature a documentary crew doing a documentary about a different subject is a possibility as a premise for a possible Office universe extension, Daniels said in the past.
Back in September 2023, it was rumored that Daniels would be working on a reboot in the wake of the WGA strikes.
The Office premiered in 2015 with an ensemble cast including Carell, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, B.J. Novak and Jenna Fischer. The show also starred Mindy Kaling, Leslie David Baker, Melora Hardin.
The story follows the employees of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company based in Pennsylvania.
The Office is currently in the talks for a potential spinoff series in very early stages
The new show, if it happens, will not be a reboot bringing back the original stars but would likely take place in another Dunder Mifflin branch in The Office universe
The prior year, Daniels said he was exploring the idea of creating a comeback series.
‘I can’t tell whether fans would want more of it, and when I say more of it, I don’t think it would be the same characters,’ he said.
‘I think it would just be sort of like an extension of the universe, you know what I mean, like the way [The] Mandalorian is an extension of Star Wars,’ he explained. ‘But I don’t know if that would be something people would want or not. It’s hard to tell.’
The show ran for nine seasons before concluding in 2013.
James Spader had taken over as the lead following Carell’s departure from the show in season seven.

The series was inspired by the Ricky Gervais-led British original and ultimately became a cultural phenomenon with the series finale being viewed by a staggering 5.69 million people in 2013.
Since the ending of the beloved syndicated series, there have been many talks about continuing the show.
However, Daniels is steadfast that he is not interested in creating a reboot but wants to create a new series with new actors that may revisit the original characters in some way.
Original cast members could make appearances in a new franchise series but a reunion seems unlikely.
Novak, who was also a writer on the American series, previously confirmed to Deadline that it would not happen.
‘Definitely you wouldn’t get everyone back together,’ he said at the time. ‘That ship has sailed.
