Suzanne Shaw Marks Four Years of Sobriety by Reflecting on Past Drinking in Inspiring Post

Suzanne Shaw is celebrating four years of sobriety.

The 42-year-old took to Instagram to share an inspirational post on Thursday, speaking out about her decision to quit alcohol.

Suzanne put together a montage video to mark the milestone, including clips of herself that she called ’embarrassing’ when she did drink, telling fans how it was ‘time to escape the alcohol trap’, be ‘hangover free’ and live her best life.

The montage included videos of herself now, fitter and healthier, alongside clips of her with wine bottles and being the version of herself she said she no longer wants to be.

The former Hear’Say singer captioned the post: ‘4th January 2020 I made a promise to myself… To respect, love and care for me.’

‘It was time to commit to a life to be proud of.’

The TV personality continued: ‘I used to visualise myself being healthy and taking adventures, sharing my wellness journey and knowledge and helping raise awareness for mental health and today that’s exactly what I do.

‘I push my limits, care for my wellbeing, share my story and coach others to live a healthier lifestyle.’

Speaking to anyone thinking of following in her footsteps, Suzanne urged people to ‘choose you and your health and happiness’.

The star went on: ‘If you are on a wellness mission or taking a break from alcohol here are my 3 top tips… 1. Commit – own your decision and know your why.

‘2. Consistency – small steps every day. Break it down to 1 job, prioritise your wellbeing daily.

‘3. Community – surround yourself with supportive people who will help you and motivate you to keep going. Join groups, follow inspirational wellness accounts, read books, listen to podcasts, watch documentaries.’

Suzanne’s post comes after she spoke candidly about her struggles with depression and anxiety in a 2021 interview.

‘I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety for more than 18 years,’ she explained to Runner’s World. ‘But it was only recently that I felt ready to open up about it because I wanted things to change.

‘For years, I had been hoping my mental health issues would just go away, but it never happened; instead, I was having more dark days.’

The singer and actress has turned to running as a form of therapy.

‘I now need to run at least three times a week or it feels as if I am missing my therapy,’ she shared at the time. ‘I love it, as it gives me the headspace to deal with what is happening in my life.

‘Since turning to a plant-based diet, daily meditation and a more mindful approach to life, I feel so full of energy. I only wish I had discovered running sooner.’
