The singer, 47, gave an insight into how their relationship started on 's Begin Again podcast.
In a clip from the interview which resurfaced this week on social media, Sophie reflected on the beginnings of their 24-year relationship and revealed within six weeks of dating, she fell pregnant with their son, Sonny.
Sophie said she met bassist Richard when she was 22 as he was auditioning to be in her band.
She told Davina: 'I walked into a rehearsal room and met him there and the first thing I said to him was nice amp which I find baffling to this day. I'd never complimented an amp in my life.
'We were both in relationships at the time. It was just, "Oh, this is Richard." And I just went, "Nice amp." I don't know. It must have been a nice colour or something. I'm that superficial. But yeah, he has like a neon sign of in his studio now. So nice. Nice amp.'

Sophie said how they spent quite a lot of time together and formed a friendship.
She said: 'I have to say I was always quite cynical when people talked about being friends with someone you later become involved with romantically. I was like, "How can that happen?"
'It sets up a really healthy dynamic and it means you like each other.

'When we went on our first date, we kept it really secret from our friends and family because even though by then we were both out of our relationships, we had been working together and we didn't want people thinking, "oh, you know, comments anyway."
'So, we kept it quiet, had a date. It was really lovely. And then um yeah, we'd been going out. I think we probably had a couple more dates, been going out about 6 weeks and then I realised I'm pregnant.'
The couple married in 2005, and they have five sons, Sonny, 22, Kit, 17, Ray, 14, Jesse, 10, and Mickey, seven.
Sophie revealed Sonny was born two months early after she developed preeclampsia.

'We'd been dating for eight months, which is almost mathematically improbable. Absolutely mad, isn't it?'

Sophie's music career had a renaissance in 2024 after her 2001 hit 'Murder on the Dancefloor' soundtracked a viral scene in the movie 'Saltburn' and subsequently went viral on TikTok.
She told Grazia at the time: 'I'm still getting my head around it. It's extraordinary. I think it's a once-in-a-lifetime unique kind of thing.
'The pressure is off; [the song] has been such a defining part of my career already that this new adventure is just a feeling of pure enjoyment and not really worrying too much about what it all means.'
