Shocking Details Revealed After MCoBeauty Founder Shelley Sullivan Splits Abruptly from Husband Anthony: She Embraces Public Eye on Hotel Balcony while He Flees the Country

EXCLUSIVE

Leading cosmetics entrepreneur Shelley Sullivan and her husband Anthony had just ended their lease and were in the process of moving from their $11,000-a-week heritage-listed rental mansion into a five-star hotel when they abruptly split, sources say.

Sources familiar with the couple’s situation have told Daily Mail Australia that Mrs Sullivan, the founder of popular skincare brand MCoBeauty, and her accountant husband parted ways two weeks ago after having a massive argument.

At the time, according to the source, the couple were still residing in their marital home, a $76million mansion called Leura in Bellevue Hill in Sydney’s ritzy eastern suburbs.

The source said the argument prompted Mr Sullivan to leave the country and head to the United States, while his wife moved into the InterContinental in Double Bay – as the couple had originally planned.

The high society split – which comes just seven years after the couple’s opulent wedding at Point Piper – has shocked their wealthy social circle in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Daily Mail Australia understands Mr Sullivan booked a flight back to Sydney for early next week after learning the break-up had made headlines.

Meanwhile, the beauty mogul appeared distressed as she fielded phone calls on Sunday from the balcony of her plush hotel suite.

Make-up free and dressed in casual winter attire, Mrs Sullivan’s pearl wedding ring was noticeably missing from her left hand.

A cardboard box appearing to contain a bar fridge was spotted outside the couple’s deserted home 1.5km in Bellevue Hill.

Rooms in the InterContinental – which has housed celebrity guests including Princess Diana and INXS frontman Michael Hutchence, who died there in 1997, when it was formerly known as the Ritz Carlton – range from $300 to more than $1000, depending on the room type and season.

The source told Daily Mail Australia the couple frequently stay in hotels and were renting, despite their multi-millionaire status, because they could not find something they liked around the $40million mark.

Neither of the Sullivans has commented on the split. The last time the couple were pictured together on Mrs Sullivan’s Instagram page was in March during a trip to Los Angeles.

Sullivan, 50, is celebrated as one of Australia’s most successful businesswomen.

She made her mark in the 1990s with her model and talent agency before launching her thriving ‘masstige’ beauty brand, ModelCo, in 2016.

Masstige is a retail term referring to a product that is marketed as ‘prestige’ or premium but is in fact mass-produced and inexpensive.

The brand is on track to generate $247million in the 2024 financial year.

Sullivan, from Sydney, launched her brand’s iconic Tan Airbrush In a Can more than 20 years ago and it still sells a bottle every 36 seconds worldwide.

ModelCo has overtaken legacy beauty brands like L’Oréal, Maybelline and Rimmel in the Australian market.

The likes of Kendall Jenner, Hailey Baldwin, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Elyse Knowles have represented the internationally famous line.

She is credited with introducing the world to the first heated eyelash curlers.
