's mental health company Wondermind has faced significant controversy over the last year due to allegations of drug use and mismanagement, which it has denied.
Now, the business faces further accusations in a lawsuit that the media startup has been embroiled in for the past few months, the Daily Mail can exclusively reveal.
Wondermind, founded by Selena Gomez, her mom Mandy Teefey and Daniella Pierson in 2021, allegedly owes nearly $1 million to the company's former landlord in , according to the complaint. Pierson departed the company in 2023.
In a breach of contract lawsuit filed by Genius Sports Media Inc. against Wondermind Global Inc. in February 2025, the sports company alleged Wondermind owed $813,027.18 in back-rent, and the mental health platform has yet to pay it a year later.
Genius Sports Media is currently waiting for a decision on its motion for summary judgment, which will determine whether the judge will proceed without a trial.
In one of the latest filings, from November 24, 2025, Genius Sports' attorney stated that it granted extension dates in the past as a professional courtesy, but are now refusing to grant another extension in the hopes it will push for the case to be finalized soon.

Selena's Wondermind company allegedly owes $813,027.18 in back-rent following reports of the mental health platform having financial struggles
The attorneys expressed fears that Wondermind - which primarily operates in at its headquarters - might become bankrupt and not pay Genius Sports the money that is owed to it.
'Wondermind continues to express that it may be in dire financial straits. News reports also suggest that the company is dealing with financing issues.
'As a result, the prospect of bankruptcy appears quite real,' they argue in the filing.
'Every day that passes poses a threat that Wondermind may file for bankruptcy or otherwise liquidate its assets, harming the chances that Genius Sports may have in recovering any funds due to it under the Sublease.'

They also claim that Wondermind's filings in the past have come with 'factual inaccuracies and blatant misstatements concerning communications between the parties.'
Wondermind's attorney has explained in court filings that the reason for the delays is due to his 'purported inability' to speak to his client- but did not name which person from the company he has specifically been trying to get in touch with.
He stated: 'I attempted several times last week without success to reach our client by email and telephone in a final attempt to resolve the Motion and, if the Motion were to proceed, how we should respond. I do not know why our client has been unreachable.'
Wondermind's attorney appears to want to back out of the case altogether, as the court granted him the right to file a motion to withdraw as counsel by the end of January - although such a filing has not been submitted yet.

As seen in a court exhibit filed in October 2025, an October 2023 email sent by Bhavik Trivedi, the then-Chief Operating Officer at Wondermind, which had Selena's mom Mandy Teefey copied on the email, brought up the company's 'severe financial burden.'
Trivedi - who left the company in June 2025 - explained to the representative at Genius Sports: 'I hope you can understand the severe financial burden this office represents based on the decisions of past leadership and how little utility we are able to extract from it.'
He continued: 'While we are in an incredibly complicated financial situation that is seeing us navigate month to month, we believe the proposal below may be one that is amenable to Genius.'
It's no surprise that Wondermind has suffered financially. Reports from last year claimed that the company was in a financial crisis - allegedly - and had to lay off 60 percent of its employees.
On top of that, Mandy was accused of erratic behavior and turning her office into a 'drug den' by anonymous employees who claimed the popstar's mom 'snorted Ritalin' - something .
Wondermind's latest project, a docuseries and podcast called Suspicious Minds - in conjunction with Agoric Media - was released on multiple platforms, including YouTube, in October 2025. The finale concluded right before the new year.

The series and combined podcast, which investigated the disturbing rise of artificial intelligence as a trigger for delusional thinking, was created and directed by filmmaker Sean King O'Grady in conjunction with Gomez, 33, and Teefey, 49, who served as executive producers.
'When it's film and television, we are on the same page all the time,' Teefey told the Daily Mail around its release about working with Selena on this new project.

Amid the financial strain, Mandy Teefey told the Daily Mail in an interview from November 2025 that they have five projects in development and an app coming out this year
'There's just no questions about it. We enjoy doing storytelling together even, obviously, we both have mental health initiatives that we're really passionate about.'
Noting that she's 'so proud' of Selena and how much she's accomplished, she teased that their partnership as a mother-daughter duo was just the beginning of what was to come with Wondermind.

'Well, this is a good example of the direction that we're heading. This is the type of product that we're releasing. We are going to have our first product ever come out first quarter of next year. We have an app coming out simultaneously with that.
'We had to make an internal shift to catch up with the technology. And so it's going really well, and we're really excited about everything that we've been executing on the down low. So super excited,' Teefey shared about the future of Wondermind.
In terms of what's next, the film producer told the Daily Mail in November that they had 'five projects in development' - with more details to be shared at a later date.
'We're super blessed to be moving forward,' she said. 'But our main goal is to make sure that we get more mental health resources out there and more mental fitness content and resources that people can utilize because we are in a trying dime.'
It appears by glancing at Wondermind's website and social media pages there have not been any new updates and both platforms appear to not have been updated in months.
According to the complaint filing by Genius Sports, it subleased its offices at 393-401 Lafayette Street, New York, to Wondermind Global from August 1, 2022 until October 30, 2024 with an annual fixed amount that varied each year.

Gomez, who is now married to music producer Benny Blanco, has a net worth that's believed to be approximately $1.3 billion
'Under the Sublease, additional rent included an electricity charge, real estate taxes, building overtime costs, and building improvement charges, in the event Landlord was required to pay such charges,' the February 2025 filing stated.
Furthermore, Wondermind was required to provide 'a security deposit of $212,980.24'.
If the monthly charge was not paid within seven days after the due date, the fixed rent was subject to a 1.5 percent per month late charge - plus, if it had to get a lawyer involved, which ended up taking place, Wondermind was responsible to pay the sports company's attorneys' fees, disbursements and court costs.
The lawsuit states, 'Wondermind failed to timely pay months of fixed and additional rent under the Sublease. This includes an initial failure by Wondermind to pay additional rent charges for prior month electric and a waste fee on April 28, 2023. Wondermind then failed to pay total rent, fixed and additional rent, from May 2023 through October 2024.'

A notice of default was issued in August 2024, stating that the 'total amount of monies owed for fixed and additional rent as of August 21, 2024 was $875,917.36.'
Following the initiation of the lawsuit, Wondermind made a payment of $213,000 to Genius Sports, which then reduced the amount to $813,027.18.
In Wondermind's response filing, it denied many of the allegations and noted that Genius Sports failed 'to credit certain payments made by defendant (Wondermind).'
In August, Genius Sports stated its frustration in a letter to the judge about how Wondermind failed to respond to any disclosure requests by the deadline set forth - which was a matter of over four months - and the company was 'left waiting yet again' after not receiving any update or response from Wondermind.
In a filing from November 2025, Wondermind's attorney denied many of the accusations set forth by Genius Sports and stated, 'As of today, the parties have served responses to all outstanding discovery requests and made initial document productions. Party depositions have not been held.'
Genius Sports, however, informed that court that it 'has not had a chance to review Wondermind’s late responses or production... and cannot be sure the production or responses are complete.'

The latest filing, filed on January 9, 2026, stated that a conference was held in early January with attorneys from both parties present. The hearing has been adjourned to April.
