Ryan Sutter has admitted that the cryptic Instagram posts he made about wife Trista Sutter in May, which ignited divorce rumors, did not fare well for him and their family.
The 49-year-old father-of-two told Chris Harrison on the latest episode of the Most Dramatic Podcast Ever that Trista, 51, left home in May for a then-undisclosed reason — which turned out to be a new reality TV opportunity for the inaugural Bachelorette star.
Because he was unable to talk to his wife while she competed on Fox’s Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, Ryan used Instagram to share messages Trista could find later.
‘Trista wasn’t gonna be able to have access to social media until she got finished with this experience she was on,’ Ryan shared.
He reiterated, ‘So I was gonna post these things knowing, like, the second she had access to it, she would look at it, and she could see, like, “Here’s what happened while you were gone. Here’s how much we missed you.”‘

‘It just blew up in my face and backfired,’ he said on Monday’s podcast episode.
‘If there is something really, really bad happening in my life, I wouldn’t be telling anyone. Most of my personal life stays pretty personal,’ he clarified.
The former TV personality noted that he uses social media to recall the ’emotional state’ he was in while posting particular captions.
Weeks ago, Sutter worried fans when he started sharing cryptic posts about ‘missing’ his wife of 20 years , who was ‘at a place in life where she is searching a bit.’
When Trista, a physical therapist eventually returned to social media in late May, she joked, ‘Geez people. Can’t a girl have a nervous breakdown/trial separation/midlife crisis/death/divorce in peace around here?!’
‘An opportunity for perspective and personal growth presented itself and with the unconditional support of my family and friends, I chose myself and betterment, knowing that my stay-at-home-mom job and my kids end-of-the-school-year needs were in the best, most capable hands,’ Mrs. Sutter explained in a lengthy May 25 Instagram caption.
She added, ‘My stoic husband who usually chooses privacy over posting, decided to share his love for me in messages that would find me in my travels. We look at Instagram like a digital diary. Most of the time, the world doesn’t pay too much attention.
‘This time, he couldn’t say anything right and just about every news outlet picked up his “cryptic/confusing/attention-seeking/dramatic” pictures and captions. To me, they gave me exactly what my words of affirmation love language needed to get me through some serious self doubt and fear… and that’s all that matters.’

Ryan promoted his appearance on the podcast on Monday, writing, ‘Great catching up with you, my friend’
Trista’s appearance on the third season of Fox’s Special Forces is ‘expected to air sometime in the fall,’ according to TMZ.
She used Instagram to wish her husband a happy Father’s Day on Sunday, sharing a video montage of him and their family.
‘Good days with the best dad. Truly. ❤️ One to always bring the laughter, adventure, support, guidance, love, and fun,’ her caption read.
It continued, ‘We love you @ryansutter and with you, these hours and seconds and minutes never go to waste. #HappyFathersDay #grateful.’
