Ryan Phillippe is fighting to stay alive in the new trailer for his upcoming survival thriller feature Prey, which was released on Thursday.

In the clip, the 49-year-old actor stars as a Christian missionary who tries to stay alive after his plane crashes into a remote part of the world.

The Cruel Intentions star – who recently shared a rare photo featuring his daughter Kai – costars alongside Emile Hirsch, Mena Suvari and Dylan Flashner in the upcoming film.

The trailer for the film, which is set in the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa, begins with Phillippe’s character informing his girlfriend, played by Suvari, that they have to abandon their work and flee to safety.

When asked about the reasoning for the sudden departure, he replies that a militant group is ‘coming for us. They want American hostages.’

The pair then make their way to a remote airstrip where they are met by a smuggler, played by Hirsch, who informs them: ‘You’ve all paid for a seat on the plane. Those coming with me, let’s go.’

Midway through the flight, the plane unexpectedly begins to plummet out of the sky and crash-lands in the middle of the Kalahari, which Hirsch’s character ominously refers to as ‘someplace you don’t want to be.’

He then reveals that they had crashed over a big game reserve, populated by various dangerous species of animals, and remarks: ‘Every second we’re exposed out here is life-threatening.’

The group then takes refuge in the plane’s wreckage for the night, although they are then stalked by a group of hungry lions.

After the smuggler acknowledges that they are being ‘hunted’ by both man and beast, Phillippe’s character begins to choke him and exclaims that people are ‘dead because of you.’

The missionary then stares down a pair of hyenas and expresses: ‘Everything out here is trying to kill us.’

After a member of the group is attacked by a snake, they encounter several militants, who fire rounds into the plane’s wreckage.

The smuggler then states that he is ‘not going to die like this’ before being attacked by a blood-drenched lion, after which the trailer ends.

Performers such as Dylan Flashner, Jeremy Tardy and Michaela Sasner round out the cast of the feature

Producer Robert Ogden Barnum recently gave a statement to Collider to praise the filmmaker’s work on the upcoming film, which he described as a ‘visceral experience for moviegoers.’

Prey is currently scheduled to be released both in cinemas and on demand on March 15.
