TV veteran has spoken out on his rivalry with Graham Norton ahead of making her chat show debut.

Jonathan, 65, has been interviewing A-list stars for almost four decades now, though continues to face stiff competition from Irish host - and soon Claudia, 54.

In a new interview, Jonathan has conceded Graham, 62, will always attract bigger stars such as movie actors, which he puts down to the fact you cannot advertise on the .

He also said: 'I've never looked at another person's show and thought I wish that wasn't on, or I never felt threatened by another person's show.

'Because all you can really do is do your show as well as you can and hopefully you'll find an audience — and if it doesn't, they'll let you know and you'll stop doing it.'

Continuing to speak to The Sun, Jonathan also wished former host Claudia look as she prepares to launch her new series on March 13.

The dad-of-three said: 'I suspect Claudia will do great. She's such a charming person. She's a really lovely host. She knows what she's doing. I don't know anyone who doesn't like her.

'I'll be watching along with everyone else, looking forward to it and rooting for her.'

Jonathan's career in the hot seat began in 1987 with The Last Resort, which was followed a year later by One Hour with Jonathan Ross.

He continued fronting various shows for the broadcaster throughout the nineties before moving to the BBC in 2001 where he hosted Friday Night With Jonathan Ross until 2010.

Jonathan's current chat show with ITV has been on air since 2011.

Meanwhile, Graham has been at the helm of his show since 2007. 

A first look at Claudia new BBC chat show on Friday sees the host mock her own love of fake tan - by slapping orange paint on her face and joking, 'I'm ready!'.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the new format will launch on screens from Friday, March 13 at 10.40pm.

In a teaser trailer for the series, the former Strictly Come Dancing host can be seen placing small oranges inside a bucket of gloop as she jokes the colour 'isn't orange enough' for her liking. 

'Yes, just still not orange enough...' as she checked the colour of the paint, before continuing: 'Hi, it's Claud here. I have a new show, I am really getting prepared.

'They want me to tell you it starts on Friday the 13th, well, I've had a good run.'

Putting the paint of her face and pouting towards the camera, Claudia concludes before walking off screen: 'Yep, I'm ready.'

Her first guests include Hollywood star Jeff Goldblum, Absolutely Fabulous legend Jennifer Saunders, comedian Tom Allen and Devil Wears Prada's Vanessa Williams.

The set for the show will reportedly be modelled on the aesthetic of The Traitors castle in a bid to recreate a look which 'is now synonymous with Claudia'.

Speaking about her new gig, Claudia said previously: 'I can't quite believe it and I’m incredibly grateful to the BBC for this amazing opportunity.

'I'm obviously going to be awful, that goes without saying, but I'm over the moon they’re letting me try.'
