Rita Ora was missing from The Masked Singer on Saturday night as guest judge Charlie Simpson stepped in to replace her on the panel.

The singer, 33, who usually stars on the popular ITV show alongside Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan was no where to be seen.

But, it appears comedian Mo had other ideas when he suggested that Rita could in fact be behind the mask.

Viewers saw Maypole take on Cricket, before Big Foot vs Dippy Egg, and Weather battle it out against Rat.

Following Maypole’s rendition of Never Gonna Not Dance Again by Pink, the panel were left scratching their heads at who could be inside the costume.

As Davina thought it could be Anne-Marie, Johnathan guessed at Theresa May and Charlie opted for Emma Raducanu, while Mo believed it could be Rita.

However, back in September it was announced that Rita would miss three shows due to her hectic filming schedule.

One of her current commitments is her role on The Masked Singer US, where she has been lined up to replace Nicole Scherzinger for series 11.

It comes after Rita lifted the lid on her decades-long friendship with Jonathan and told how he has ‘always been there’ for her.

The singer and the chat show host, 63, are both judges on The Masked Singer, but their friendship long predated the hugely popular ITV show.

Rita sweetly told how Jonathan has been her mentor ever since she first started out in the music industry more than a decade ago.

The pair became fast friends ever since Rita appeared on the Jonathan Ross Show back in 2012, fresh from the success of her breakthrough track Hot Right Now.

Of their close bond, Rita told The Mirror: ‘Jonathan’s always been there for me since the beginning of my career and he’s been such a great influence on me, I think with that comes this lightheartedness between us, along with a level of trust.

‘It feels really nice to have somebody that can handle my sarcasm, at the same time, he knows deep down he’s one of my mentors and he’s always going to be that person to me.’

Jonathan praised Rita’s ‘extraordinary work ethic’, adding: ‘I think Rita is phenomenal […] I don’t think I’ve met anyone who works as hard as she does.’

The close friends are returning to judge the fifth series of The Masked Singer alongside Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan.

The brand new series, which has been prerecorded, will once again see the judging panel trying to guess the identities of the masked celebrity contestants performing.
