The A-list actor, 76, spoke with People about Homer's rising profile, marked by a viral appearance on Max's in which he appeared opposite .
'I'm proud of him on two levels,' said Gere, known for films such as Pretty Woman, American Gigolo and An Officer and a Gentleman. 'One, he's really good. He really kind of preternaturally knows what he's doing.

'But he's also handling it really well. He's a good kid.'
Gere described his son, who he shares with ex-wife Carey Lowell, as 'a really good young man who kind of gets it.'
Speaking about , Gere said that acting 'is not an easy job' and 'not everyone can function within it,' adding, 'I think he can stay.'
