Paddy McGuinness has shed light on the horrific car crash he suffered while filming now-defunct motor show Top Gear in 2020.
The presenter, 50, had crashed a £250k 1990 Lamborghini Diablo while filming for the BBC show in North Yorkshire when he skidded on oil at a slight curve in the road.
Speaking on the Restless Natives podcast, the star divulged how he hit a wall at around 70 to 80mph, which left his ‘brain rattling’ however he subsequently suffered panic attacks in the wake of the shocking crash.
He said: ‘I hit a wall at about 70 or 80 miles an hour. You could feel your brains rattling. Thank the Lord I walked away from it. But I remember that night being in my bed at the hotel and literally having a bit of a panic attack.’
Paddy also referenced his co-star Freddie Flintoff’s crash last year, which saw him badly hurt and landing a reported £9million settlement with the BBC over two years of lost earnings due to his horrendous injuries.

Paddy presented the show alongside cricketer Freddie Flintoff and automotive journalist Chris Harris, prior to the cancellation earlier this year
Freddie, pictured in September, scraped his face ‘horrifically’ after he rolled a three-wheel Morgan Super 3 while on the Top Gear test track
Speaking about Freddie, Paddy said: ‘It stays with you. Especially what he’s gone through’, regarding the crash which came before the show’s demise.
Directly after the crash, Paddy took to Instagram to reassure fans that he was doing alright after the incident, though he looked shaken and bruised in the video.
He admitted to fans: ‘It’s been a mad old day on Top Gear today, you might have seen that I had a bit of a shunt.
‘I finally got to drive one of my fantasy childhood cars, the Lamborghini Diablo, but it turns out 30-year-old supercars don’t like torrential rain, who’d have thought.
‘If you’ve ever owned a Diablo or you’ve driven one you’ll know just as well as me, oh my god, she can be a cruel mistress, she can be a cruel mistress that one.
‘That V12 lures you in and suddenly “rawr” it bites you. Fingers crossed we get the car running again because it is an absolute beauty.’
Ending the video on a light note, Paddy joked: ‘I’m going to have a cup of tea, a paracetamol and a good old cry.’
Last month, Paddy thanked fans ‘for the love’ after the BBC said the hit series will be off air for the ‘foreseeable future’.
Following the crash, the BBC announced that it would pause production on the show as it was felt it would be ‘inappropriate’, adding there would be a health and safety review
His ‘goodbye’ message came amid fears the programme’s insurance costs have become unsustainable following Freddie’s crash.
The show’s production had been halted since host Freddie was taken to hospital in December 2022 after being badly hurt in an accident at the Top Gear test track at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey.

Earlier this month, Paddy admitted his ‘money has run out’ as he revealed he plans to return to stand up comedy for the first time in six years. The presenter made the tour announcement after Top Gear’s axing
The comedian shared the revelation during an appearance on Wednesday’s This Morning with Emma Willis and Rylan Clark.
When asked why he decided on the tour, Paddy said: ‘Erm, well the money’s run out now so it took about eight years to spend it all and I’m like, ‘I’ve got to build it back up. So weirdly, writing a tour does take a lot of your time…
‘When we had the break from Top Gear, I’d been planning it for a long time, I went, ‘There’s a window there’.’
Paddy announced the news of his tour earlier this week on his Instagram page, telling fans: ‘I’ve been itching to tell you this!
‘After a six year break I’m finally back on Tour!!! Paddy McGuinness – Nearly There. All pre ticket sale links in my Bio. See you in the New Year… live!!!!’
