He has been one of Hollywood’s biggest stars for decades.

But Nicholas Cage proved he is just like the rest of us on Monday, going shopping at a local supermarket in Busselton, Western Australia, with his wife Riko Shibata.

In scenes reminiscent of his Oscar-winning film Leaving Las Vegas, the 59-year-old was seen pushing around a trolley full of shopping.

In an iconic scene from 1995 film, his character goes on a booze shopping spree so he can drink himself to death in Sin City.

But on Monday, he swapped alcohol for fresh vegetables and nappies for the one-year-old daughter he shares with Shibata.

Nicholas will be shooting The Surfer, a psychological thriller, in Western Australia’s most famous surfing and wine region.

CinefestOZ chief executive Cassandra Jordan said of Cage: ‘It is beyond exciting to have something of this calibre shooting in our region.

‘[The film] follows Nicolas Cage, a man returning to his hometown after many years of leaving the region, and it’s all about him up against a local gang of surfers who claim ownership over a secluded beach of his childhood.’

It is not known how long Nicholas will stay in Australia for the shoot, but the star has already whipped excitement up in the small community
