Morgan Wade, Kyle Richards’ best friend, shares her ongoing journey of body acceptance after preventive double mastectomy, saying it’s empowering to prioritize her health.

Kyle Richards’ close friend Morgan Wade has revealed she is ‘still processing’ her body after undergoing a preventative double mastectomy four weeks ago.

The singer, 29, who underwent the surgery after after testing positive for a gene mutation that puts her at a higher risk of getting breast cancer, told People she was adjusting to ‘how tough it is’ to look at her new bust.

She underwent the four hour surgery on November 18 which saw her breasts reconstructed. Her new bust does not have nipples but she has the option to have 3D nipples placed onto her implants or get tattoos.

She said: ‘Everything was gone. That was probably the weirdest part for me. I didn’t think I would care, but then when you go and you look in the mirror at yourself, it was just a lot to take in. I’m still processing how different my body looks in that regard.

‘As tough as it is to look in the mirror right now for me… [the scars will] heal up and it’ll be good. If you would’ve asked me a day after I did this, I would’ve been like, “Screw all of you”. Why the hell did I do this?’ But now it’s helped me see things way differently.’

‘I would rather have done all this and never know if I was going to get breast cancer or not. I would’ve rather done this and have that peace of mind. Life is short, life is precious, and I’m grateful for the advances with science that we have the knowledge to be able to go and take care of these things.

The star said of the surgery:  ‘I didn’t really process it. But the night before, I started to get kind of anxious about it, and I was like, “I don’t know that I want to do this”. I knew I needed to do it, but there’s always that little bit of fear in the back of your mind.”

Wade revealed it was Richards who helped her get the surgery, connecting her to non-profit Mission Plasticos who provide reconstructive surgery to people who are uninsured or underinsured, as Wade was. It is estimated a surgery like Wade’s would cost around $100,000.

Earlier this year, Richards’ rumored lover Wade spoke about her decision to get the surgery, saying she was reluctant, at first, to get the test.

‘I was like, “I really don’t want to.” I complained. I was like, “I don’t have time.”’

But it turned out that no needles were involved, all she had to do was spit into a tube.

Morgan’s family has a history of cancer. Her mother, Robin Fonville, 45, had a double mastectomy when she tested positive for the RAD51D gene mutation.

Robin encouraged The Night singer to be tested after a cousin tested positive.

The RAD51D gene ‘normally helps prevent cancers,’ according to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. ‘A mutation in this gene causes it to stop working like it should.’

The Around the World tour schedule has her performing through late October, so Morgan has decided to have her surgery in November.

Morgan has received some pushback for what some consider a radical decision.

‘People are like, “Well, what if you never got cancer?”’ she explained.

‘I was like, “Well, I won’t know because I’m going to do the procedure and then not worry about it.” If you have the opportunity to prevent something, prevent it. That’s the choice that I want to make.’

Now that she knows about her own risk, Morgan wants to help others feel comfortable about learning about their own risk.

‘I’ve met so many people and they’re like, “My mom had breast cancer,” and now they’re going to get tested and [are] finding out, “Oh my gosh, I do have it.” They just don’t know how accessible this stuff is.’

‘I’ve had so many amazing people reach out that have been through this process or have gotten tested to find out they do have the gene and they’re grateful for that knowledge.’

Richards, 54, recently opened up about her relationship with Wade on Wednesday’s episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

While the pair have insisted nothing romantic is going on between them on multiple occasions since her separation from husband Mauricio Umansky earlier this year, the reality star admitted their friendship is unlike any of her others.

‘My relationship with Morgan is very different than my relationship with my other friends, because she’s constantly teasing me,’ the mother-of-four told viewers.

She continued: ‘I know that when Morgan and I hang out [that] I am going to be roasted.’

Despite previously denying a love affair, Morgan and Kyle have been romantically-linked since the reality star announced her separation from Mauricio after 27 years together back in July.

Those dating rumors hit an all-time high back in August after Kyle joined Morgan in her music video for her single Fall In Love With Me that month, which featured the two women pining for each other and climaxed with a passionate kiss between the two.

However, the musician previously admitted that she and Kyle were just trying to ‘troll the trolls’ with the video.
