Melissa Joan Hart shook off fury from fans following her 'tasteless' tribute to Sabrina The Teenage Witch as she hit the beach on Monday.

The actress, 49, who played the teen sorcerer in the hit sitcom from 1996 until 2003, showed off her toned figure in a skimpy blue bikini.

Posing up a storm on the sand, the blonde beauty captioned the sun-soaked snap:  'New profile pic. #beachvibes'

Melissa recently shared a comical clip paying homage her beloved TV character however some fans were left unamused after she violently punted a stuffed version of her alter ego's talking black cat from the show.

The clip began with her sitting on a chair with a toy feline on her lap.

'No Salems were harmed in the filming of this silly video,' she vowed in the caption. 'P.S. I like cats, but I love dogs!'

While some users were entertained by the joke, others made it clear in the comment section that they did not find it amusing, branding the video as 'tasteless' and 'disgusting.'

'Real cats and real animal lovers don't find this funny at all. I love dark humor but this ain't it sis,' wrote one user.

'That was heartbreaking. No violence against any kind of animal!' quipped another.

A third agreed: 'That was a bad joke, it encourages violence against real animals, I thought that was a sad post.'

'That hurt. You can love both cats and dogs. No need to choose one. Why do dog people always put cats down and are proud of it?' asked someone else.

'Unfollowing. This broke my heart I loved Melissa,' read a fifth comment.

'This isn't your best work, still a fan but this was hard to watch,' announced a different user.

'This was unnecessary. People hurt black cats every day. This is not nice. Tasteless...' slammed another.

'I love you, but it's not funny Melissa. It's disgusting,' wrote someone else.

Melissa first shot to fame aged 15 after landing the lead role of Clarissa Darling in the Nickelodeon 1990s teen sitcom, Clarissa Explains It All.
