sent fans into a frenzy when she shared a video of herself doing her own shopping at the grocery store.
The world renowened diva, 56, who likes to be carried on stage and famously said she thought electricity was free, was seen picking up wine and cereal while pushing around a trolley at a Pavilions store.
As she giggled through the aisles picking up Captain Crunch and savoury snacks, Mariah appeared confused and asked if she really had to pay for her shopping.
She asked: 'Are we really going to pay for this'?' as fans wrote in the comments: 'This is foreign to her and it shows'.
'Mariah get off that lighting, honey!'; 'I remember she hates fluorescent lights'; 'Please rate the lighting MiMi'; 'I know she brought her own light'
Mariah Carey hit the supermarket for a weekly shop on TikTok on Thursday and questioned if she'll have to pay for the wine
The Fantasy singer was spotted pushing a shopping cart around a Pavilions store, picking up a range of cheese, wine, and boxes of cereal
Mariah previously appeared on the highly popular Las Culturistas podcast hosted by Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang and she blasted 'agonising' lighting.
The twosome do a segment called 'I Don't Think So Honey' in which their guests are given the opportunity to rant about any subject for a minute.
Mariah pulled no punches as she said: 'I can’t with the overhead lighting. Why do they do it to us? I shouldn’t say us, it’s not us, it’s me.'
She said: 'I’m the one who’s the most tortured by the hideous lighting in elevators, doorways, gyms , not that I go to the gym, I’m just saying.
'It’s hideous lighting. The sun is okay if it’s sunset, I’ll gladly go outside and put a little hat on or whatever and that’ll be pretty because the sunlight caresses your skin.'
Mariah concluded: 'It’s bad for you, so you have to be careful. But overhead lighting I don’t think so honey.
'Please stop it! Everywhere I go, shut the lights! I don’t want to see them no more. Overhead lighting, it makes me sick!'
While food shopping is a typically mundane task for your average US family, Mariah, who kept a low profile in a pair of black sunglasses and a bomber jacket, seemed out of her depth.
But this may not come as a surprise to fans, as she has been known to be unfamiliar with the concept of paying for electricity in the past.
In a 2009 interview, when the interviewer asked about paying bills, Mariah replied: 'Bill who?'.
The interviewer clarified that he meant a payment bill like an electricity bill, which Mariah said: 'Oh you have to pay for that?'
The interviewer said: 'well we don't get it free' to which Mariah wrongly stated that 'in American we get it free'.
It had to be explained to Mariah that while it may 'feel free' to her, she does in fact, have to pay for it.
Mariah has had a history of being credited as a diva as she has suffered many awkward moments from not knowing huge A-list stars to not understanding how to pay for everyday items.
One of Mariah's most famous diva moments came in 2003 when she said she 'didn't know Jennifer Lopez’ during an interview with the German television program Taff.
When asked about her thoughts on Jennifer, Mariah shook her head and responded with the now-iconic phrase, which later became a viral meme.

Fans also joked with Mariah, pointing out that she was shopping with 'overhead lighting', in a nod to her famous 2024 rant over 'agonising' lighting
The perceived feud stems from several factors, primarily linked to Mariah's ex-husband, Tommy Mottola, a former Sony Music CEO.
In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, she alleges that Tommy sabotaged her 2001 album Glitter and its lead single 'Loverboy' after their 1998 divorce.
She claims he gave a sample of the song Firecracker by Yellow Magic Orchestra, which she intended to use for Loverboy, to Jennifer for her hit single I'm Real.
Mariah alleged that Tommy redirected a planned collaboration with Ja Rule from her to Jennifer, further fueling tensions.
Mariah referred to Jennifer in her memoir as 'another female entertainer on their label (whom I don't know).'
In an interview with Spin magazine in the 90s, Madonna was asked, 'Are there moments when you just say I wish I was Mariah Carey, just singing silly pop songs?'
The hitmaker laughed and replied, 'I'd kill myself.'
Mariah didn't take kindly to this remark and made a diss at Madonna's age and relevancy in an MTV interview.
She said: 'I really haven't paid attention to Madonna since I was in seventh or eighth grade when she used to be popular.'
While Mariah's feuds with Jennifer and Madonna played out in the press, her beef with Nicki Minaj was face-to-face.
The two women clashed during season 12 of American Idol when they both joined the judging panel.
Reports surfaced of on-set tension, with a leaked video from October 2012 showing Nicki angrily confronting Mariah during auditions in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In the clip, Nicki is heard saying, 'I told them, I'm not fin' putting up with her fin' highness over there,' referring to Mariah. Nicki also accused Mariah of making negative comments about her, escalating the situation.
In a later interview with Barbara Walters, Mariah was asked if she was the unnamed 'b***h' Nicki sang about in one of her songs.
'Don't know. I didn't know she sang. I thought she rapped. Or whatever,' Mariah replied.
