Love Island stars Ella Thomas and Tyrique Hyde’s four-month romance is hanging by a thread after they split in secret, MailOnline can reveal.
After struggling to cope with the distance between them, the couple separated but have since rekindled in a last attempt to make their relationship work.
Model Ella, 23, still lives in Scotland while Tyrique, 24, is Essex based, which has proven difficult for the pair to navigate post-villa amid their busy work schedules.
And sources close to the former Islanders, who rose to fame on the summer season of the ITV2 show, say it’s ‘unlikely’ their romance will withstand the test of time although they are trying.
The strain in their relationship caused the couple to miss out on the ITV Palooza last week, with the pair pulling out at the last minute.

An insider revealed: ‘Ella and Ty split in secret but got back together and it’s been like that for a few weeks now, they are very on and off.
‘Viewers saw how the dynamic between them can often be fiery and it’s been no different since they left Love Island.
‘This is the first time Ty has been in a relationship and often Ella can feel let down… she expects a lot from him, and he hasn’t been delivering.
‘Then there’s the distance, Ella still lives in Scotland and Ty is in Essex with his family so spending quality time with each other can be tricky.
‘Ella has also been traveling back and forth to Los Angeles thanks to her modelling work and ambassador deal with PrettyLittleThing.
‘They’re trying everything they can to make it work but the romance currently hangs by a thread.’
Ella and Tyrique came third during the Love Island final in August but were beaten to the £50,000 cash prize by Jess Harding and Sammy Root, who split up weeks later.
They became known for their arguments as Tyrique struggled to remain loyal to Ella, often flirting with bombshell arrivals and keeping his options open.

Ella attended the Beauty Awards solo on Monday but on/off boyfriend Ty commented on an Instagram post of her outfit saying, ‘It can’t be the beauty awards if you didn’t win anything’
But after confessing his love for Ella, who he had met previously in a nightclub, the couple vowed to make their relationship work.
Their romance was rocked once more during the Casa Amor loyalty test when Ella chose to recouple with Ouzy See, which shattered Ty’s pride.
Despite the odds, they remained together in the villa and have made several red-carpet appearances since the show ended, including at the Pride of Britain Awards in October.
They were notably missing from the ITV Palooza, which was attended by the likes of Love Island winners Millie Court and Liam Reardon and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti as well as finalists Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page.
Ella has seen success since finding fame on the show, with her fanbase just shy of a million followers.
She also landed a lucrative ambassador deal with PLT, fronting her own collections and shooting in Los Angeles for the brand.
MailOnline has approached Ella and Ty’s representatives for comment.
