After being dropped from the job for getting too tall, he got an agent and ended up landing the part of Blaise.
'I got into acting originally, I was Dean Thomas' double,' he recalled. 'I was actually picked out of school in year 7 and being a double for two years in two films which was the second and fourth film which got me into acting.
'From there I got an agent and she threw me into auditions and three auditions later I got the part for Harry Potter. So coming back from being a double to being a main character in the films was pretty incredible to be honest.'
Speaking at a convention in Texas in 2018, Louis recalled how grateful he was to return to the films, saying: 'So when I got back to set, I just had to take it all in.
'Because I had been on the other side and thinking I wasn't going to get to come back. So being back, I just enjoyed every minute of it.'
He has also stayed close with Gregory Goyle actor Josh Herdman, and showed their enduring bond when he attended the now-mixed martial artist's wedding in 2023.
Louis saw his Harry Potter role significantly increase once again in the final film, after the actor who played Vincent Crabbe was axed, leading to Blaise stepping into the character's place for The Deathly Hallows.

After initially being considered for the part of Dudley Dursley, Jamie Waylett was cast as one of Harry's school nemesis Draco Malfoy's two cronies alongside Josh as Goyle.
A Slytherin student in Harry's year and the son of a Death Eater, Waylett, 36, played Crabbe in six out of the eight films from 2001 to 2009.
His most memorable scene saw Harry and Ron taking Polyjuice potion to impersonate Crabbe and Goyle in the second film, The Chamber of Secrets, to try and trick a confession out of Malfoy.
