Liza Tarbuck Quits Saturday Show After 14 Years

Radio 2 presenter Liza Tarbuck left her fans heartbroken on Wednesday as she revealed she is quitting her beloved Saturday evening show.

The English actress and comedian, 61, has been the host of Radio 2's 6-8pm show since 2012 and has since . 

But Liza has decided she'd like her weekends back and has revealed she is stepping down from the presenting gig - much to the dismay of her famous colleagues.

Sharing the news, Liza posted a handwritten note on Instagram on Wednesday reading: 'I think you've guessed, some fool left a door open & I sneaked out - a French exit! 

'Together we made 2 hours of radio feel like a private member's club, that's the stuff of dreams, thousands of people enjoying each others company like great friends. Imagine what else we could do.

'Thank you for letting me in, it's been a privilege. [TARBUCK doffs a battered bowler hat & bows deeply] See you on the ice.'

Radio 6 host Shaun Keaveny will be stepping in to present the slot until the end of March with the BBC set to announced future plans at a later date.

Liza was flooded with comments from colleagues and friends alike, including her friend and Saturday afternoon host Rylan Clark.

Rylan wrote: Of course you of all people would put a handwritten exit letter CROPPED so it's like a game on the crystal maze to read. 

'I'm gonna miss you so much. Genuinely. I'm so lucky to have worked with you for so long. Thank you for making me cackle on and off air. I love you ❤️.'

EastEnders actress Natalie Cassidy shared the sentiment, writing: 'What am I going to do though. The best two hours of radio in my life. This is what it must have felt like for Beatles fans when they were no more. I do hope my soul can enjoy you elsewhere. 

'Thank you for being a part of my Saturday teatimes. I hope there is a back catalogue of all the 12 years on @bbsounds so I can pretend you're still there. LEGEND.'

Elsewhere weekday evening presenter Jo Whiley said: 'This is terrible news for us all. Just mentally trying to recalibrate my Saturday evenings. 

'I've always loved our time in the garden - me pruning roses and you serenading me with your brilliant eclectic playlist and nothing but positive vibes always. No-one cared more about their listeners than you, Liza. 

'As a fan, I am bereft. Thank you for the music and chat, the love and support LT. The broadcaster's broadcaster - much love ❤️.'

Actress and presenter Lisa Faulkner commented: 'I am so so sad. I LOVE your Saturday show. I love you. 

'Saturday nights won't be the same. You are amazing and will be very missed ❤️.'

Helen Thomas, Head of Radio 2, said of Liza's exit: 'Every Saturday evening, Liza created a truly magical, fantastical world. She was beloved by everyone at the station and all her listeners, and the door at Radio 2 will always be open for her. 

'Liza will be hugely missed and we wish her the very best of luck for the future.'
