Liz Hayes celebrated her 70th birthday this weekend.

And the 7NEWS Spotlight star says that ageing has not slowed her down, even though she admits she's at the 'pointy end' of her years.

'I don't feel there's a major deficit in my life, other than I guess if I did the mathematics,' Liz told the Daily Telegraph.

'I'm truly fine turning 70 but ask me when I turn 80, geez, I hope I feel all right about that.'

The television journalist offered up her number one tip on ageing, and that is simply to take good care of your health as you advance in years.

'From my 70 years, let me tell you, there's one thing you learn... that the only thing you really need is some pretty good health,' she said.

Liz has continued her career on screen at full steam, even as she reaches what many would consider retirement age.

Last year, she announced a move to rival network Seven after years starring on Channel Nine's 60 Minutes.

The star joined  to work on current affairs show Spotlight.

'When I arrived at Nine I had little more than a notebook and a typewriter, but like my new and far more experienced colleagues, I carried with me an enormous passion for telling stories,' she said in a statement.

'I was blessed. I had found my tribe. Even Nine's owner at the time, Kerry Packer, seemed to carry the same passionate storytelling gene.

'Of course since then much has changed. The media world has evolved as have I. What hasn't changed is the need for good stories to be told, and I will continue to tell them.
