Who is he?

This 73-year-old musician who came to fame in the 1980s has not been seen at events in years. But he was pictured at the 6th annual Guild of Music Supervisors Awards at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on Saturday

Who is he? John Tesh

He is John Tesh.

In 2021, he said he 'went back into the trenches' with a cancer relapse.

The composer and former Entertainment Tonight co-host told People that he had two tumors around his pelvis that required chemotherapy. And he also had his prostate taken out and lost the use of one of his kidneys.

He thanked his actress wife Connie Sellecca.

In 2015, Tesh was told that his cancer was terminal and he .

Tesh detailed his second cancer battle with the site.

'I woke up with an enormous amount of pain one morning in October 2020 - I had pain in both my legs,' he shared.

'It turned out there were two tumors around either side of my pelvis and wrapped around my organs,' John explained.

When he was told of his relapse 'I felt less like a guy who was sick trying to get well and more like somebody who was healed well resisting sickness.'

His 2021  cancer battle stripped him of the use of one of his kidneys and required treatments ranging from operations to chemotherapy.

Also there were Oscar nominees Kate Hudson and Diane Warren

Yet he still responded to his relapse much better than to his first experience of prostate cancer in 2015 when he was given 'a get-your-affairs-in-order speech.'

Having been advised that he would be dead in a year and a half, he began 'drinking heavily' in a blend with his prescribed pain pills.

'When you're in that situation - we thought I was terminally ill - that identity gives you a lot of free rein. The doctor wants you to have Vicodin so you can feel better, and people look the other way when you're drinking scotch every night and mixing the two,' said John - only for his wife Connie Sellecca to stop turning a blind eye.

'Ultimately my wife and I went toe-to-toe and she said: "I am not going to abide this. This is my battle too. And you're giving up,"' he recalled.

In mid February he was seen with, from left, Spike Lee, Sellecca and Sterling K. Brown at the 75th NBA All-Star Game at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California

Connie taught herself everything she could about her husband's disease and he feels that had she not 'been my advocate and such a brilliant study of prostate cancer, I wouldn't have made it.'

He said proudly: 'We would go in and meet new doctors, and after about a half hour of talking they would turn to her and say: "Are you in the medical field?"'

Last week he talked his brief romance with Winfrey, and the challenges they faced as an interracial couple in the 1970s.

He opened up about dating Winfrey, 72, when the pair worked at competing local television stations in Nashville, .

During a recent interview with Page Six, Tesh spoke about how it was 'very uncomfortable back then for an African-American woman and a very, very white guy' to be dating.

He acknowledged that their relationship 'was unusual in the South.'

'My whole family grew up in the South, and so I was obviously aware of that,' he explained.

Despite the social climate at the time, Tesh said they refused to let the outside noise define their relationship.

'It became a joke between us,' he explained, 'because we would work all day and then, like we really saw each other once a week, and she or I would say, "Hey, which restaurant do you want to empty tonight?"'

The pair briefly dated while building their careers in local news before eventually going their separate ways.

In 2020, Winfrey wrote about their decades-long 'spiritual partnership' in her 'What I Know For Sure' column for O, The Oprah Magazine.

As she looked back on their relationship, the star admitted that when she first met him, she thought he was a 'player' and 'too handsome' to be interested in her.

Winfrey also explained that Stedman was 'always with the same girlfriend' whenever she saw him around, so she 'didn't pay much attention' to him.

But that all changed when they were both visiting a mutual friend who was ill in 1986.

'We left together, and I asked if he wanted to get a beer,' she recalled. '(Yes, I drank a lot of beer then and wore cowboy boots every day.) He said he didn't drink. (Still doesn't—not one sip of nothin' alcoholic since I've known him.)

'I thought he was nice enough, but I wasn't that impressed,' she continued. 'He was polite, yes, and kind. The sort of guy who sits with an ailing friend. Tall and handsome, for sure. But actually too handsome, I thought, to be interested in me.

'I figured he must be a player. So did all my producers. They warned me not to get involved with that Stedman guy.'

Winfrey said she was cautious about even pursuing a friendship with Stedman, but she had a change of heart after she learned he had broken up with his girlfriend and was asking about her dating status.
