Explosive leaked text messages have revealed what really went wrong between Married At First Sight couple Steve Powell and Rebecca Zukowski following their shock exit on Sunday night.
And the truth is far messier than viewers were led to believe.
In a series of emotional exchanges obtained by Daily Mail, Rebecca, 51, appears to beg Steve, 50, to stay loyal to her amid mounting pressure from producers.
Things got so bad that fellow bride Bec Zacharia even stepped in behind the scenes in a desperate bid to salvage their relationship – but the damage was already done.
The private messages paint a picture of paranoia, regret and a growing belief that the show was actively trying to tear them apart.
'Honey please know that I have you and I'm so so sorry that I have bought into the bullshit and their narrative!' Rebecca wrote to Steve.

In a series of emotional exchanges obtained by Daily Mail, Rebecca, 51, appears to beg Steve, 50, to stay loyal to her amid mounting pressure from producers
'I am the most loyal person you will ever meet and my promise moving forward I'm here for us ONLY!!!!' she continued.
She went on to admit she felt she had been played.
'I'm so disappointed in myself, they played me!!!'
In another message, she vowed to defend him publicly when filming resumed.

'Please trust me anything they throw at us when we reunite I have you 100%… I promise promise you I will stand by you!!!'
Rebecca even referred to herself as 'TV wife Rebecca', adding that she now understood 'the game'.
'I get and understand the game now!!! I'm here for us only even if it's just an amazing friendship which I do hope we can build on!!!!'
But while Rebecca was scrambling to repair the damage, fellow bride Bec was simultaneously messaging Steve behind the scenes – assuring him Rebecca regretted what had happened on camera.

'Sitting with Bec for the last couple of hours, she knows she's been manipulated by producers to say EVERYTHING on camera and she's regretful of this,' Bec wrote.
'I promise you. She knows you are a kind soul and a beautiful human and wants this to work and regain trust! I truly feel this can work. Just come back, reset and restart.'
In another blunt message, Bec lashed out at the show's dynamics.
'You men are in such a difficult situation. You have WOMEN telling you what to do, when to do it, when to come home, what to fkn wear. Men need to be in their masculine and this is not IT. Having us b*tches nag at you exasperates the situation. We all just need to RESET and remember what we came here for.'
The intervention suggests tensions had escalated far beyond what aired on television.

At one point, Steve appeared wary of Rebecca's shifting behaviour.
'Well depends on Rebecca as she has turned on me a little and I don't know why,' he replied in one exchange, before asking for the message to be deleted so it would not cause further drama.
Rebecca, meanwhile, was trying to convince him their problems were external.

'This is US against the show,' she wrote. 'They are going to use you for content.'

She urged him not to let producers 'break us' and insisted she would 'shut it all down'.
'You have my word that I am going to shut it all down!!!!'
The messages also reveal Rebecca acknowledging she had 'bought into' the show's storyline and needed to earn Steve's trust back.
'I know I have to gain your trust and I'm ok with that… We have this!!!'
But the cracks were already forming.
In one telling exchange, Bec told Steve that Rebecca was ready to 'eat a little humble pie' – but only if he was willing to 'accept, forget and move on'.

'You two have worked WAY too hard to allow this minor blip to ruin this good thing. The show and the relationship,' she wrote.
'It IS going to be ok.'
Despite the promises and late–night pep talks, insiders say the relationship never truly recovered.
The leaked texts reveal a couple spiralling under the weight of reality TV pressure – torn between genuine feelings and an increasing distrust of production.
While viewers saw awkward dinners and emotional confrontations, the real drama was unfolding off–camera in a flurry of frantic messages, apologies and secret alliances.
In the end, what really went wrong between Steve and Rebecca was not just a clash of personalities – but a breakdown of trust fuelled by suspicion, outside interference and a belief that they were pawns in a much bigger game.

Neither Steve nor Rebecca have publicly commented on the leaked messages.
But if these texts are anything to go by, their marriage unravelled long before Sunday's Commitment Ceremony.
