Kyle Sandilands shocked his co-star Jackie ‘O’ Henderson on Thursday with his surprising take on Alec Baldwin’s Rust manslaughter trial.
The actor, 66, is currently on trial in New Mexico after the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, on October 21, 2021.
Baldwin was a producer and the star of Rust when he shot dead cinematographer Hutchins a mother-of-one, while filming with a prop gun that had a live round inside it. The film’s director Joel Souza was also injured.
Kyle, 53, told Jackie, 49, he believes Baldwin should never have been charged over the incident, which has already seen armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed sentenced to 18 months prison for involuntary manslaughter.
‘Are you one of those weirdos that thinks just because someone is dead that everyone needs to suffer? An actor was handed a gun, that’s it,’ Kyle said.
Jackie disagreed and said the incident had to be fully investigated to ensure the responsible parties were brought to justice.
‘You still have to go through the processes, that’s only fair to the person who is dead. You would want the same if it was your mum or sister,’ Jackie said.
However, Kyle said he would ‘still be on Alec’s side’ even if that were the case, prompting an outraged Jackie to ask if it was because Baldwin was famous, to which he agreed.
Baldwin’s trial began on Tuesday and if he is convicted he could be imprisoned for up to 18 months, the same length as Gutierrez-Reed’s sentence.

Camera footage showed Hutchins laying on her back inside the set following the shooting, with tubes coming out of her body as medical teams tended to her.
The movie also co-starred Australian actor Travis Fimmell, 44, and was completed months after the accident.
It is set to be released as a tribute to Hutchins.

The stakes for Baldwin are incredibly high and were starkly illustrated in February when Gutierrez-Reed went on trial and was found guilty for the same charges in the same court.
In her opening statement, Erlinda Johnson, a special prosecutor appointed to the case, said that Baldwin had ‘violated the cardinal rules of firearm safety’ and that he was ‘reckless’ on set.
A similar incident occurred on the set of a Bliss n Eso music video filmed on the Gold Coast in January 2017, in which Australian martial artist Johann Ofner was fatally shot dead by a prop shot gun.
