Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have become accustomed to surprise cameos in mid-credits scenes of their movies, with that tradition continuing in the MCU’s latest movie The Marvels.
The mid-credits scene features Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) waking up in a hospital bed, after sacrificing herself to close a rift in the multiverse.
While she sees her mother Maria (Lashanna Lynch), and is thrilled she’s still alive, Maria admits she doesn’t recognize her own daughter, as the doctor in the room – Dr. Hank McCoy (Kelsey Grammer) a.k.a. Beast – explains she’s from another universe.
Grammer, 68, revealed he was ‘very excited’ to return to the role, which he first played in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, and then briefly in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, in a new interview with The Wrap.
McCoy’s inclusion in the mid-credits scene brings another character from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise into the MCU, following Professor X (Patrick Stewart) returning in 2022’s Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.

Grammer revealed he was, ‘very pleased’ by the response of the cameo and added, ‘a lot of people got in touch’ after watching The Marvels in theaters.
‘I’ve always wanted to play him again. I see him as an extraordinary character, a real character of gravitas and importance in our culture,’ Grammer said.
‘I’m delighted Beast is back and hope he’s back in a real way,’ while hinting there very well may be plans for another return down the road.
‘It is my hope that you will (see him again). I can say with a certain amount of confidence that you will. I would love to,’ he added.
Marvel is currently in Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the second of three phases of movies and TV shows that will collectivly be known as The Multiverse Saga.
The introduction of the multiverse means that characters Marvel previously licensed to other studios before forming Marvel Studios could essentially be inserted into the MCU canon as is, with those characters simply occupying a different universe.
After Marvel’s parent company Disney purchased 20th Century Fox in 2019, many had wondered when the X-Men would be a fixture within the expansive MCU.
Patrick Stewart’s Professor X cameo in 2022’s Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness was a step towards acknowledging the movies that had come before, though it’s still not ultimately clear what Marvel’s plans for the franchise are.

Marvel and Disney will be bringing even more characters from the 20th Century Fox movies into the MCU with Deadpool 3, slated for release next summer, which will be the first R-rated movie in MCU history.
Ryan Reynolds will return as the Merc With the Mouth, with Hugh Jackman also returning as his beloved Wolverine character.
Fans were also surprised when it confirmed in July that Jennifer Garner will be returning as Elektra Nachios, which she played alongside then-future-husband Ben Affleck in 2003’s Daredevil and in the 2005 spin-off Elektra.
As for Grammer, he also recently resurrected another beloved character, Frasier Crane, in the Paramount Plus series Frasier.
