Kelly Clarkson has spoken for the first time about quitting her daytime talk show.
On Friday, the 43-year-old singer appeared on the Today show for an interview with her Voice costars, host Carson Daly and fellow coach John Legend.
She was asked about her decision to end The Kelly Clarkson Show in order to spend more time with her kids, River, 11, and Remy, 9, after their father Brandon Blackstock's death in August 2025.
The Stronger singer said it has not been easy to end the successful show.
'That's what was really hard,' she explained. 'The crew's been incredible. It wasn't that the show wasn't doing well. That's what kind of sucked, it was like, everything was going well. That's what was really hard. It was people's jobs. We are family there as well.'

But she said she needed to do it for her kids.
'Well, I think everybody probably gets the timing,' Clarkson said. 'Our family life, the dynamic changed a bit and it has changed for a minute now.'
Her kids made her realize 'how precious' life is so she wanted to slow down.
'I know everybody thinks, "Oh she quit,"' Clarkson said. 'I'm like, "I still have other jobs. I'm still doing stuff." There's just too much on the plate. So I'm like, "You know what, it's time to kind of pull back."'
Clarkson announced earlier this month that she is ending her daytime talk show after seven season.
Her ex-husband, Blackstock, died of melanoma, a form of skin cancer, in August 2025. He was 48. The singer filed for divorce from Blackstock in 2020 and their divorce was finalized in 2022.

The star called NBC an 'incredible partner' before admitting that it was 'not an easy decision' to step away from the talk show.
'Stepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives.
