Kath & Kim Star Passes After Cancer Fight

Kath & Kim director Ted Emery has died after a battle with cancer. 

The legendary Australian comedy stalwart passed away at his Noosa home on Tuesday. 

A memorial for the television icon will be held in in the coming weeks. 

Starting his television career in the 1970s, Emery had an impressive resume, having worked on a number of Australia's most iconic comedy series. 

He directed episodes of beloved shows such as Fast Forward, Full Frontal, Acropolis Now, Jimeoin, The Eric Bana Show Live and Tonight Live with Steve Vizard. 

His last screen credit was the Kath & Kim anniversary special in 2022, titled Kath & Kim: Our Effluent Life.

Kath & Kim, , starred Jane Turner, Gina Riley, Magda Szubanski, Glenn Robbins and Peter Rowsthorn. 

The sitcom produced two spin-off movies: Da Kath & Kim Code (2005) and Kath and Kimderella (2012).

 from world-famous stars, including , and Michael Bublé. 

In September 2018, Magda and Jane spoke about the possibility of a reboot, but admitted it would need to be modernised to reflect the current trends and culture.

'Never say never,' Magda told TV Week

Jane, who co-created the series with Gina, added: 'It would be very different now.'

'There are always funny new trends and things Kath & Kim could put their spin on, which would be fun to do.'
