The TV doctor, 45, took to Instagram on Thursday as he recounted the embarrassing incident which occurred during a quick trip to the supermarket.
He told fans: 'Team, something really embarrassing has just happened to me. Something mortifying. I think I'm going to get reported to the police.
'I just finished working. I went into Morrison's just to get some bits. I needed some really quick bits from Morrison's.
'And then as I was coming out of Morrison's Mama Khan, my mother, rang me to see if I could go and see one of her friends on the way home from work because she has done something to her leg and she wants me to see her leg.
'I was like, "fine, fine." But as I was chatting to my mum, I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing and I opened the door to my car, except it wasn't my car.'
Dr Amir Khan was left mortified after he made a girl scream after mistakenly climbing into the wrong car at the supermarket as he shared the anecdote on Instagram on Thursday
Sharing how his actions were quite alarming to the girl who was sat in the car, he continued: 'It wasn't my car. It was just a car that looked like mine.
'And there was someone sitting in the driver's seat, like a girl and she screamed.

'And I just went, "Oh my God! Sorry, wrong car! Wrong car!" It was awful. I think she now thinks I'm like some kind of carjacker.
'So I shut the door and then kind of apologised through the glass a million times and then went to my car which was just on the next row in front.
'And now I have to go and visit Mama Khan's friend, entirely tortured. Why does this keep happening?'
Dr Amir is best known for his TV appearances on Lorraine as well as his No Appointment Necessary podcast with Cherry Healey.
Back in November, Lorraine Kelly was left squirming in her seat as Piers Morgan and Dr Amir furiously clashed over trans rights and women’s spaces.
As the programme descended into chaos, the host was drowned out, with the duo repeatedly speaking over her.
A report ruled that people in toilets can be asked if they are male or female.

Lorraine said of the news: 'Oh that will open a can of worms.'
Piers retorted: 'Not really, but what is a cisgender woman?'
Lorraine replied to say the definition was that of a biological woman, prompting Piers to quiz: 'Well, why can't we just call them that? That would solve a lot of the problem, stop giving them stupid names like cisgendered.'
Dr Amir Khan then interjected: 'When it comes to these kinds of issues, the reason this is problematic is because a lot of these people won't be trained to ask those kinds of questions...'
Piers then jumped in, quipping: 'I will stand outside the loos and ask the questions!'
He joked: 'And I just went, "Oh my God! Sorry, wrong car! Wrong car!" It was awful. I think she now thinks I'm like some kind of carjacker'
Next he asked Amir which toilets he uses, and he made clear he opts for the men's.

Piers then asked why, with Amir saying that he 'identifies as male.'
Piers corrected him: 'No, you don't identify as male. You are a male. You're a man so you use the men's and so do I.'
Lorraine tried to chip in, saying that she uses the ladies as the men's is 'disgusting,' to which Piers roared: 'And how would you feel if we both marched in there?'
Lorraine giggled as she replied: 'Well if I was on the loo, I wouldn't be very happy!'
Piers continued: 'Males stay out of the women's area and women stay out of the men's area. It used to be so simple.'
However Dr Khan was having none of it, hitting out: 'No that isn't the bottom line!'
'The reason that this is an issue is because this will actually endanger women as well.'
When Piers stressed that women are already endangered, Dr Khan asked: 'By trans people?'
Piers emphasised that while he 'doesn't have a problem' with trans people and believed that they deserve equal rights, this should never be 'at the expense of women's rights.'
