Karl Stefanovic was the epitome of a team player as he celebrated Jake Packard’s victory during the 2024 Australian Swimming Trials at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre on Wednesday.

The beloved Today Show host, 49, joined a vibrant mix of celebrities and sports legends in the Mixed 6x50m Freestyle Celebrity Relay. 

Karl, known for his humour and enthusiasm, didn’t disappoint.

Embracing the spirit of the event, he declared, ‘You’ve all heard of the Thorpedo, but now it’s time for the Karlnado. 

‘Never has swimming seen a specimen quite like this. I’m back on home ground in Queensland which is always worth a few extra points, and I will take down all challengers in my quest for Gold.’

‘My swimming career may have peaked in high school as 7th place at district championships, but with size 12 feet I have built-in flippers and I’m not afraid to use them,’ she said on the night. 

The star-studded celebrity relay featured personalities from various fields, including NRL star Johnathan Thurston and surfing power couple Owen Wright and Kita Alexander.

Other notable participants included sports commentator Clint Stanaway, beach volleyball champion Kerri Pottharst, Nitro Circus BMX rider Ryan Williams, rugby league great Sam Thaiday, and Wallabies legend Drew Mitchell.

Adding to the excitement were some of Australia’s most iconic swimming figures, including Susie O’Neill, Duncan Armstrong, Mack Horton, Jess Schipper, Jodie Henry, and Justin Norris, to name a few.
