Johannes Radebe from Strictly shares which Royal Family member expressed interest in competing on Come Dancing

Johannes Radebe has revealed which member of the Royal Family ‘personally told’ him they would love to star on Strictly Come Dancing. 

On this week’s The Jonathan Ross Show, the professional dancer, 36, sat down to discuss the ITV show and his upcoming projects. 

Joined by Perrie Edwards, Frank Skinner and Aisling Bea, the guests recalled their encounters with Royals. 

Revealing he once met Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, Johannes said: ‘She would love the opportunity to [compete in Strictly Come Dancing] but she can’t obviously. 

‘She has personally told me this.’

Elsewhere, fellow guest Frank Skinner praised Johannes on his partnership with John Whaite on the 2021 series. 

Becoming emotional, he responded: ‘I have to say I’ve spent the last seven years in this country and it has been absolutely wonderful. 

‘I feel seen and that experience really brought a certain confidence to me that I cannot tell you – I’ve never had that. It’s restored my faith in humanity, that experience. 

‘To hear people give feedback as to how beautiful it was, that really humbles me.’

Johannes, who is currently on tour with his own show House of Jojo, also exclusively announced his next project: ‘It’s my musical debut,’ he confirmed. 

‘I’m a late bloomer. I have the opportunity to play Lola in Kinky Boots. Everything I’ve done in my career has led to this moment. I’ve followed it since its inception.

‘A first for me. It’s been two years I’ve been taking my singing lessons because I’ve known about the job for two years. 

‘I just wanted to respect people who have come before me and put in the work before I could say yes. I’m grateful that the producers waited until I was ready.’

Speaking about his House of Jojo tour, Johannes added: ‘For me, it’s a blessing obviously, to be able to dance to my own music – that really humbles me’

Speaking about his House of Jojo tour, Johannes added: ‘For me, it’s a blessing obviously, to be able to dance to my own music – that really humbles me. When I tell you, it’s a spectacle – it’s gay pride on steroids.’

Earlier this year, Queen Camilla said she’s one of the greatest fans of Strictly Come Dancing as she chatted to Johannes during a visit to a community centre in Cambridge. 

The Queen also said she is considering taking up tap dancing in her ‘dotage’ after Strictly Come Dancing star Johannes presented her with a pair of steel-shod shoes. 

Camilla promptly asked him for tap lessons after watching the performer and Love Island star Tasha Ghouri, also a professional dancer, coaching Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) staff and volunteers on the dance floor. 

‘I would love to do it because I’ve always wanted to tap dance. So in my dotage perhaps it’s something I could take up,’ the Queen said as she clutched her tap dancing shoes.

She added: ‘Having seen everybody here today dancing away happily, it’s the best exercise and for everybody it’s a wonderful way of just enjoying yourself.’

Radebe, known as Jojo, led the RVS Find Your Feet beginners’ dance class in the cha-cha-cha, then Ghouri tapped out the intricate moves for the group to follow, during a tap-dancing session.

A few feet away the Queen clearly enjoyed watching the class, laughing as Radebe asked the dancers to spin round, and when the session ended she apologised for not joining in, saying: ‘Very nice, I’m sorry I’m not cha-cha-cha-ing.’

Camilla’s love for the BBC dance show is well known but Radebe made the class laugh when he told her: ‘I’m so beside myself that you watch Strictly Come Dancing.’

The Queen, who attends Silver Swans – classes for elderly ballet dancers run by the Royal Academy of Dance, replied: ‘I’m one of Strictly’s greatest fans.’

Radebe and Ghouri led the class at the Meadows Community Centre in Cambridge which opened last year and where the RVS, which the Queen supports as president, has a cafe.
