Industry insiders lash 'idiot' Karl Stefanovic amid Nine exit: 'Nothing screams Aussie battler like being on holidays in the South of France'

has inspired the ire of some television insiders amid his spectacular exit from Channel Nine. 

The former Today host, 51, resigned from the network following last week's furore over his controversial interview with British far-right activist .

One fellow Australian television personality criticised Stefanovic's farewell video after his departure from Nine, in which Stefanovic, who has been travelling overseas, declared 'I'm free' while .

'That video of Karl begging for sponsors. He thinks he is cute. Winking… "I don't know what will happen to me" then skipping through the park in the South of ,' the TV personality told The Daily Telegraph on Sunday. 

'Nothing screams "Aussie battler" like being on holidays in the South of France. 

'I don't know who is a bigger idiot, Nine or Karl.'

Another network executive also had harsh words for Stefanovic, and criticised his audience appeal. 

'He isn't the greatest showman,' the executive told The Daily Telegraph. 

'The perception he brings an audience "with him" has been proved false – failed prime-time format after failed format.'

It follows reports that Channel 7 and Network Ten have 'privately ruled out the possibility of hiring' Stefanovic, The Australian reported on Sunday. 

'Stefanovic is unlikely to front a show on Australian commercial television again,' the publication alleged. 

There is some good news, however, with The Australian reporting that the television host has avoided a court battle with his former employer. 

Nine and Stefanovic are believed to have agreed to an undisclosed six-figure settlement as part of his termination package.

The TV star, who has been a Nine stalwart for some 25 years, had six months and over $1million left to be paid on his 12-month contract.

In the wake of his departure, Stefanovic shared a video online declaring, 'I am free'.

He addressed his Today show fans in the clip, saying the last few days 'hadn't been easy' but he was happy to be 'truly independent' at last. 

Stefanovic went on to thank the viewers of his independent podcast and stressed the importance of 'freedom of speech'.
