There's no other way to describe the hysteria gripping America over weight-loss drugs (GLP-1s) and the irrational insistence that anyone who looks, well, 'normal' must be, somehow, cheating.
Case in point, Luciana Bozán Barroso, better known as Mrs .
The glamorous 49-year-old stepped out with her famous actor husband at a glitzy San Francisco fundraiser on Monday, looking admirably fit and quite happy.
Not achingly thin, like Kelly Osborne. Or suddenly slim like the once meaty . And Barroso was certainly not 'unrecognizably' skinny as fans worryingly described actress following her stick-slim, gaunt appearance at the April 24 movie premiere of her film 'The Invite' at a film festival.
Yet, almost instantly, rumors about Barroso began to swirl.

'How can you be so skinny at that age?' a Reddit poster posited. 'Answer: Ozempic, baby!'
How unbelievably unfair to her!

Achingly thin Kelly Osborne has also been accused of using GLP-1 medication to lose weight
I write this as a man who once tipped the scales at 301lbs and has, like GLP-1 evangelist Oprah Winfrey, been very open about the impossible-to-believe impact these drugs have had on my life.
After decades of battling my body, the 'food noise,' as GLP-1 takers often describe it, has mostly disappeared. And at 6ft and fairly muscly, I weigh in at 185lbs and have maintained this number for more than a year.
I'm proud of my journey, but that doesn't mean that I should project my story on to others.
Barroso, who famously met her husband while working as a bartender in Miami, has always been in good shape, even when the mother of four was photographed immediately before or after giving birth.

Indeed, as one of the few 'normal' women left in Hollywood, nothing would be more disappointing than if Barroso was influenced by unattainable beauty standards and made to feel like she needed fat jabs.
As the wife of a wealthy and Oscar-winning actor, she surely has ample access to private chefs and personal trainers and the time to take care of herself.
It's really no mystery why she looks so great.
Unsurprisingly, Barroso has not responded to allegations of GLP-1 usage nor is there any evidence that she is on the drugs. So why is the word Ozempic being hurled like a slur at her?
Some, like Oprah and comedian Amy Schumer, have admitted to using weight loss drugs. Oprah is now essentially a GLP-1 evangelist, while Schumer seemed to celebrate her new body by leaving her husband and kickstarting her moribund acting career.

Singer Lizzo, meanwhile, says she has tried Ozempic, but ultimately did not rely on it to achieve the bulk of her dramatic weight loss.
Others like Keely Brosnan, wife of James Bond-actor Pierce Brosnan hasn't addressed speculation that she's on GLP-1s after her sudden and dramatic weight loss.
And why should she? Keely Brosnan, 62, looks great and most likely feels great, as I do. She's also undoubtedly far healthier and likely thrilled to no longer be on the receiving end of nasty, stigmatizing media coverage.
Unlike Barroso, Brosnan actually was technically overweight, one might even say severely. While it would also be a shame if Brosnan is taking GLP-1 as a consequence of Hollywood's impossible beauty standards, I would at least understand her motivations.
There can be little doubt that this new slim aesthetic is forcing both celebrities and ordinary Americans to reconsider how they really feel about body size. And it's been a head-spinning ride.
The decade before GLP-1s, the culture was dominated by ubiquitous talk of body positivity.
Fashion brands and magazines promoted models of all sizes; in 2020 Lizzo herself graced the cover of Vogue in all of her (very) full-figured glory.
She was celebrated as a model of progressive self-acceptance and encouraged others to love themselves, no matter their weight, as well. But the moment GLPs arrived body acceptance was exposed as little more than a sham.
While 'older models' are now being embraced by the fashion crowd, their fuller-figured counterparts are now essentially nowhere to be found.

Ultimately, no one really wanted to accept full-figuredness and obesity — especially the full-figured and obese themselves. Far more than merely delivering weight loss, the meds, as Oprah has so intimately explained, provided much-needed relief.
This is why the chatter now swirling around Barroso's appearance is so curious and concerning.
More Americans are coming to grips with their health either through the aid of medication or lifestyle changes – yet suddenly we're shaming people for looking healthy?
The insipid obsession with Luciana Barroso is proof of this Ozempic Derangement Syndrome.
If it turns out Barroso has relied on meds to look so great, that's ultimately her business.
She should never be essentially accused of 'cheating' simply for looking fit.
That thinking is the most unhealthy of all.
