Hilary Duff was in fine form on Tuesday at she arrived at CBS Mornings in New York City.
The actress, 36, was there to promote her new book, My Little Sweet Boy, after writing My Little Brave Girl, a book dedicated to her daughters.
‘Writing a boy book to follow after my girl book seemed like the natural thing to do, the natural step to take, and, actually, it was a little bit backwards because I had my boy first, he’s 11,’ she told hosts Gayle King, Nate Burleson and Tony Dokoupi.
The best selling author is mom to daughters Banks, five, and Mae, two, whom she shares with her husband Matthew Koma. She shares her son Luca with her ex-husband Mike Comrie.
And she also has a new home fragrance line.

The How I Met Your Father star chose a business chic look, stepping out in a pale sage green blazer over a silver sweater and silky silver maxi skirt.
She accessorized with a gold necklace with several charms on it. Her shoulder length blonde hair was styled in loose layers.
Hilary’s first book, My Little Brave Girl, was about her realizing the ways her infant daughter would have to be brave after her mom returned to work.
She said, ‘My first book was about going back to work and leaving my four month old for the first time, and me just realizing how brave she had to because it was so hard for me, and I’m like “she’s four months old and I’m all she knows.”‘
The author said writing her second book was a bit tougher.
‘I felt like I was going backwards so many years in remembering what my first experiences with motherhood was like and having this little boy,’ she explained.
‘What was important for me to try to teach him and instill along the way and my experience with him liking flowers and being really sensitive and also like, banging up things.’

Publisher Penguin Random House described the picture book as ‘Inspiring young boys to be as gentle as they are strong.’
When asked why she wanted to include a page about the boy crying, Hilary replied, ‘I think there’s so much power in that, being able to access your emotions.
‘I know with my journey with him, it’s like, with boys, “Come on, be tough, get up, you know you’re okay, you’re okay,”‘ she explained.
‘That was something I constantly heard and I’m like “what if he’s not okay right now?” and “who am I to say that he should be okay and tell him that in that moment?”‘

Explaining why it’s important for boys to be able to explore their feelings she said, ‘He’s going to learn how to keep himself in control when he’s older but, right now, why are we going to squash that?’
In an Instagram Story video shot in the green room, the Younger star said, ‘I hope this book resonates with you if you are a boy mom.’
After her interview was over, Hilary signed copies of her new book for fans waiting outside the studio.
My Little Sweet Boy was released Tuesday.
