Guess who transformed into an elderly man for a sitcom? Comedian looks unrecognizable in new role

Jon Richardson has undergone a makeover to resemble an elderly man for the upcoming series of his Dave sitcom.

The comedian, 41, looked unrecognisable in photos from the fifth season of Meet The Richardsons, set to start airing on April 8.

Donning a bald cap, prosthetic wrinkles and heavy special effects makeup, Jon looked twice his age and more like his grumpy old man persona.

He was seen zooming about cheerfully on a mobility scooter as he got into the role of a grandfather, to see what life was like for the elderly.

Meet The Richardsons stars Jon and his wife Lucy Beaumont, 40, who play fictionalised versions of themselves in a mockumentary format.

Fellow comic Lucy also co-writes the show alongside Tim Reid, and various comedians and celebrities often make cameos, usually also playing a dramatic version of themselves.

Last month it was revealed that the new series will feature appearance from a host of famous faces including Ben Shephard, Kimberly Wyatt, Lee Mack, Alexander Armstrong, Gregg Wallace, Stephen Mangan, Amanda Abbington, Dick & Dom, Adrian Chiles, Nigel Havers, Cheryl Baker and The Cheeky Girls.

The fifth season was confirmed exactly one year ago, before the fourth series even began airing.

Dave recommissioned the comedy for another outing after it was named Best Comedy at the Broadcast Digital Awards 2022.

Speaking to The Sun last year, Lucy said:¬†‘Yes, we have another series commissioned. The idea for the next series is that we want to do a sitcom and make it a bit like Heartbeat with gags, but because Jon wants to retire soon, he wants to win an award.¬†

‘So he wants the sitcom to be more surreal and abstract. So each of us goes and comes up with ideas for our own sitcom, then we take it to a focus group and we have to come back together’.

Last year saw Lucy bag a nomination for Best Female Performance in a Comedy Programme at the BAFTA TV Awards.

This will play a big part of the upcoming series, as well as Lucy’s 40th and a new huge celebrity neighbour.

According to Dave: ‘In this series, Lucy’s career is turbo-charged by her BAFTA nomination and she’s getting offered shows from the very big to the frankly bizarre.

‘Jon is fine with Lucy’s success, he’s not competitive at all, and he knows when he’s beaten.¬†

‘So, while Lucy’s busy on Taskmaster, Bake Off and Celebrity Chinese Whispers, Jon is plotting his escape from telly, with one last, lucrative job hosting a new daytime quiz show.¬†

‘Meanwhile, at home, a global superstar and her partner move in next door, making it harder than ever to keep up with the neighbours.¬†

‘Lucy’s turning 40 and she’d really like Jon to go with her to Glastonbury to celebrate. He’ll never agree to that. But will they both agree that five series of Meet The Richardsons is more than enough?’
