Gold Logie winner Georgie Parker has opened up about the surprise clause in her Home and Away contract.
The 59-year-old has played the role of Roo Stewart on the hit Channel Seven soap for 13 years.
But next month the actress will take a break from the show to lead the cast of a new David Williamson play, The Great Divide, at the Ensemble Theatre in Sydney.
Georgie revealed the one rule she had penned into her contract included being able to do other projects while working on the show.
‘I had it written into my contract that if I was able to do a play, they would release me’ the actress told The Daily Telegraph.Â

‘It is nice to leave and just stretch your wings in a different environment then go back because you appreciate it all the more for what it gives you and the people there’.
Georgie will star alongside Kate Raison in The Great Divide when it opens on March 8 at the Ensemble Theatre in Kirribilli.
The production is scheduled to run through to April 27.

It comes a year after the actress announced plans to leave the show for an extended break to pursue her theatre dreams.
The actress insisted the departures was only temporary and she had no plans to quit the soap.
She said she will stay as long as her co-star, Ray Meagher, who plays Alf Stewart, remains on the series.
Georgie is one of Australia’s most beloved stars having appeared on A Country Practice and All Saints, winning two Gold Logies for the latter.Â
She first joined the soap in 2010 replacing Justine Clarke as Ruth ‘Roo’ Stewart.Â

The star married her husband Steve Worland in 1999 and the couple welcomed their daughter Holly in 2000.
The actress told TV week in April last year, she felt the burden of juggling her career and being a new mum at the time.
‘I got married and became a mum when I won the first Gold Logie,’ she said. ‘I was split between a lot of things – it was a very stressful time.
‘The struggle I had was that I’d never chased that kind of success, so when I got it, I was doing it more because I wanted the show to succeed.’
