Shortly after King shared her story on the podcast, her ex-husband issued a statement and publicly apologized again for his infidelity.
King also shared a public response.
The day that the podcast episode was released, Bumpus publicly responded via TMZ with a lengthy statement and extended his 'deepest apologies' to his ex-wife and their family.
'Those actions were mine. I have long owned them — including publicly in my own words in 2016, which still stand,' he said.
'Gayle has every right to share what was a painful chapter that changed the trajectory of our marriage and our family nearly forty years ago,' he added. 'I respect her right to tell her story, and that's where I'll leave it.'
'I was very, very surprised,' King later told TMZ about her ex-husband's public apology. 'He didn't say anything to me about it, so I was surprised but I'm very appreciative.'
'I appreciate it, because listen, that was a very painful time,' she continued. 'Anybody that's been through it knows how painful it is.'
She added that enough time has passed for both of them to heal and move forward.
