Chip and Joanna Gaines made their long-awaited return to HGTV on Sunday, debuting their new series Fixer Upper: The Lakehouse.
The episode celebrated Chip, 49, and Joanna, 46, as they celebrated the 10th anniversary of their beloved series.
The show debuted in 2014, though the Gaines’ left HGTV in 2018 to start their own Magnolia Network.
Now they’re back with a six-episode series, with Chip revealing at the start of the episode that he bought this house to celebrate their 10th anniversary.
While driving to the house, they reminisced about their early years, as Chip joked, ‘I remember I didn’t know, literally, where to put my hands.’

Joanna added, ‘And so now, I think with this lake house, there’s something about it that just feels significant that this project landed on our ten-year “fixer”anniversary.’
The couple revealed they had always wanted a lakehouse, but there weren’t too many in Waco, but they found this at the right time for the right price.
Chip adds, ‘It was built in 1965 and has over 5,100 square feet. But the last remodel was in the ’80s, so it’s definitely got some interesting features.’
‘But, hey, it’s got five bedrooms, five baths, a sweet pool, sits on one-and-a-half acres, and has a million-dollar-view,’ he added.
They go inside and marvel at the view, though they seemingly disagree about Joanna’s plans to put in terrazzo flooring in two areas.
They head into the living room where Joanna thinks the windows are ‘too short’ though she acknowledges how expensive it will be.
Chip thinks it will be ‘a lot of money for a foot of windows’ though Joanna says it’s just her ‘wish list.’
Chip insists they never ‘lost their tail’ on things before and continues that it will cost too much.
She details plans for a new kitchen, swapping out the old laundry room for the new kitchen that will be much bigger.

They head upstairs to the bedrooms and then to the backyard, where they find a rather gross pool.
‘For ten years, we have been in the Fixer Upperuniverse, and this lake house feels like a cherry on top of it,’ Chip says.
They start the demolition process, which Joanna admits, ‘gets out some anxiety for sure,’ before they go check on the pool.
‘I’m scared there’s like a thing in there,’ Joanna says, before she screams when discovering a frog.
He asks her to see how deep it is but she refuses, saying she doesn’t want to ‘die’ down there.
Joanna starts going through the design aspects, using a computer-generated 3D models to envision what the home would look like.
She admits that the bigger windows wasn’t as expensive as they thought, so her ‘wish’ will come true.
She explains the old kitchen will now be a ‘mud room’ that will lead into the new laundry room.

‘I can’t wait to see all this come together in the house, but I think just seeing it here makes me very excited to get started,’ Joanna said.
Chip adds, ‘In the last few weeks, we’ve really started to transform this house. Upstairs, the primary bathroom has a completely new layout. Downstairs, we framed out the new kitchen. We also furred out that wall to create that little nook in the dining room. We got all new electrical throughout the house, and out back, turns out, the pool needed to be completely resurfaced, which cost us a little bit more than a cleaning, but it’s not a budget buster. It’s like night and day compared to that swamp water. Today, Jo and I have a design issue to hash out.’
They start to argue about design elements, as Chip jokes, ‘To some people, it might look like an argument. But to Jo and I, it’s actually us weighing against each other, you know, leaning. It’s sharpening our ideas.’
Joanna learns that the house’s original color was green, stating, ‘So we get to see what the paint finally looks like on a bigger scale, and we love it. And even knowing that it was originally green in the 60s, like, I just feel like we’re getting it back to what it used to look like.’
They start playfully arguing again about skylights because the dining room and the red room are, ‘so dark.’
Chip says, ‘It’s just like when I see those trusses, -my heart… My spirit wants to jump up and see how many pull ups I can do,’ which he actually pulls one off.
Joanna says, ‘You’ve been so hard on your body the last 30 years of doing the impossible. Like, just give it a rest.’
They also marvel that their team was able to fix the dreadful looking pool, which Chip says is the, ‘biggest bang for the buck on this entire project.’

The episode also shows Joanna making honey, Chip clearing out the underbrush and cutting down trees that allows them to see the lake.
They start discussing trees that they have to get rid of to improve the view, as they realize it’s actually mistletoe.

The episode ends with the couple heading out to see the ‘million-dollar view’ of the lake, as Chip jokes, ‘In this particular case I don’t mean to brag, but I told you so.’
Fixer Upper: The Lakehouse continues its six-episode season on Sunday, June 9 on HGTV.
