First Trailer for “Mr. Monk’s Last Case”: Tony Shalhoub Returns as Germaphobe Detective to Solve a Grisly Murder Years After the Finale

Tony Shaloub is back as beloved detective Adrian Monk in the first trailer for Peacock’s Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie, released on Wednesday.

Taking place in a world after the COVID-19 pandemic, the film revolves around Monk — a genius investigator characterized by his obsessive-compulsive disorder and numerous phobias — who comes out of retirement to tackle one final murder case.

This time, the case is deeply personal, as it concerns his cherished step-daughter Molly, a journalist preparing for her wedding.

The 70-year-old Tony-winning actor reprises his role of the disinfecting detective more than a decade after the USA Network’s hit comedy series took its final bow.

‘It’s been nearly fourteen years since the world has seen a fresh installment of Monk,’ the award-winning original series’ creator Andy Breckman said in a statement. ‘The world has changed mightily in those intervening years and Monk 2023 reflects the changing world’.

Breckman said that he is ‘thrilled that every one of our stars were so enthusiastic about coming back’ following the news that, along with Shaloub, the returning cast includes Ted Levine, Traylor Howard, Jason Gray-Stanford, Melora Hardin, and Hector Elizondo.

Newcomers include Caitlin McGee and James Purefoy.

‘But in coming back, we wanted to do a film that was worthy of our legacy,’ Breckman added in his statement.

‘Mr. Monk’s Last Case  is a story that is powerful, emotional, funny, heartwarming, and has something to say about the human condition. And it will be both familiar and surprising.’

In the trailer, Gray-Stanford’s Lieutenant Randy Disher says of Monk, ‘He’s afraid of heights. It’s his second-biggest fear after germs’.

Returning as Natalie Teeger, Howard chimes in, ‘Actually, it goes germs, needles, birds, then heights.’

Teeger is then seen driving with Monk in the passenger seat as he reminds her that there is a “bomb” and they need to hurry it up.

She subsequently crashed her car into another parked vehicle and exclaims, ‘We should leave a note’.
