Sarah, who now hosts with BBC quiz show The Finish Line, made her return to TV last year almost a decade after death of her husband and BBC‘s Breakfast Time host Mike Smith aged 59 from complications after heart surgery in 2014.
Despite her flourishing presenting career, Sarah stepped back following her beloved partner’s passing and put her focus on running his aerial filming firm instead.
And now she’s back on screens, Sarah told how she has no plans to retire, adding her late husband would be ‘proud’ of her TV return.
Speaking to The Mirror about how she coped amid Mike’s death, she said last year: ‘Nine years ago my husband died and I had a very big task on my hands, because I made the decision to take on his business. It was a learning precipice. It took up a lot of my headspace.
‘Offers of TV came in but for a long time I was trying to learn this new business but also feeling too raw. Only time can help that, you know when you feel ready, when you have that energy.’
While she spent several years out of the spotlight, Sarah is embracing being back in the saddle as she hosts the new show with Roman – of whom she told she was there the moment they met.
And as she reaches the veteran stage of her career, Sarah told how retiring isn’t in the pipeline yet, remarking that radio DJ Mike would be ‘proud’ of her TV return.
She also added that she felt Mike’s presence while filming the gameshow in Belfast where he grew up, remarking: ‘I had a few little taps on the shoulder from him.’

With Sarah’s career back on track, she also found new love with ex-British touring car champion Robb Gravett, who was one of Mike’s ‘oldest friends’.
Their romance was revealed in February last year, with Sarah believing her late husband ‘pulled the strings’ to make the romance blossom.
Sarah told the My Time Capsule podcast: ‘I sort of know Mike is pulling so many strings in my life.
‘He has undoubtedly been responsible for me meeting my beloved who was one of his oldest friends, who waited a certain amount of time but did keep leaving messages on the answering machine. I thought he was just being kind.
Sarah would later go on to host Going Live with Phillip Schofield (pictured together in 1987)
‘Then I got a message almost saying ‘for God’s sake, Greeno, Robb is trying to make contact with you because he actually wants to take you out, not because he’s kind. So will you just get off your a**e and go and answer the phone next time it rings!’
‘And lo and behold, a whole new conversation started. I’m sure, and Robb is very sure too, because it’s a very strange situation.
‘I remember being terribly worried and saying to this dear man who I’d known for all these years ‘isn’t it strange coming into the house and seeing all these pictures everywhere of Mike?’
‘He said ‘No, no, it’s not strange. It’d be strange if they weren’t there. And remember, I love him too.”
Mike and Robb headed up the Trakstar team that won the British Touring Car Championship in 1990.
