's eye-watering wardrobe budget has come under fire after a character who is supposedly 'broke' was spotted wearing a $1,000 hoodie.

's Rue, who owes her drug dealer $100,000, was seen in an Saint Michael Angel hoodie despite playing the role of a desperate junkie.

The first episode of series three revealed that Rue was in a very hairy situation and had been working for dealer Laurie for two years trying to pay off the debt.

It had originally started as a case of $10,000 pounds worth of drugs for Rue to sell, which was flushed down the toilet by her mother in series two.

But it was revealed during the new episode that the debut had atrostronomically increased to $43million due to interest over time.

Laurie agreed that Rue could work for her to pay her back at an agreed price of $100,000, so it seems unlikely she would have bought the pricey garment.

At another point during the episode, Rue was wearing a patchwork jacket from the same brand, which originally cost $4,050, and is now reduced to $2,835 (pictured)

The internet has picked up on some of the clothing used on the show, notably Rue's hoodie and Jacob Elordi's plaid Bottega shirt, retailing for $6,080.

Referencing the contrast between Rue's situation and the price of her hoodie, viewers commented: 'Rue has holes in her socks but yet she's wearing a $1000+ hoodie?'; 'Rue if you don't sell that goddamn hoodie and pay that lady back';

'Aint she supposed to be a broke junkie how tf she got that'; 'Why would Rue be wearing that with holes in her sock. Euphoria's heart is not in it anymore at all'; 'For a sec I thought that his Bottega gear was meant as some sort of "meta joke" (close up on that satchel), but... wtf is going on with that broke junkie's hoodie? Lol'.

During the scene Rue is smuggling drugs to Mexico after swallowing bags of cocaine before crossing the boarder.

Other pricey garments that have been spotted on the show include Jacob's character Nate sporting a Bottega Veneta wardrobe, likely due to his status as an ambassador.

Nate has worn a $1,143 brown polo shirt from the brand among a range of other pieces.

While Nate and his fiance Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) are in a much more comfortable position than Rue, the high-end fashion is still unlikely to be affordable to them.

This is supported by the fact that Cassie has started up a fetish-inspired OnlyFans account in order to pay for her dream wedding to Nate.

The show's costume designer Heidi Bivens has previously spoken out about the use of designer fashion in the show, admitting she used to be 'sensitive' to the discourse.

Speaking to Dazed in 2022, when series 2 of the HBO aired, Heidi said she used to be mindful of what the character could afford before adopting a 'f*** it' mentality.

She said: 'Oh f**k it! I was so sensitive to all of those comments during the first season. I didn’t want anyone to be able to say a character couldn’t afford something without me having a backstory as to how they got that piece of clothing. I was very cautious. Kind of like the way I approached the movie Mid 90s with Jonah Hill. Every single piece of clothing in that film I made sure existed in that year of the story so that no skateboarders could come out of the woodwork and call me out.

'But in the second season of Euphoria I was just like ‘come on, this is not reality’. Sure the show deals with real issues but Sam had given all of the departments permission to break any preconceived idea of what we thought the reality of the show was.'

Several people online agreed with Heidi, sharing their own opinions on the matter.

They said: 'I find it funny when people are literal about costuming and its prices cus I image the girl 43 million dollars in debt does not canonically wear luxury pieces. That's just another hoodie to her! Prolly 25 dollars in Euphoria land';

'Something else I wanna add to this topic is the average person that watches this show that is more than likely not into fashion, unless it's logos everywhere or popular clothes among the youth, these pieces will not be automatically recognised as luxury. For instance, she has on a graphic hoodie and he has on a plaid shirt. Automatically my mind went Old Navy, Gap, Hollister, not million dollar fashion houses';

The coversation then turned to the costume on Disney+ series, The Bear, after fans noted a similar issue.

They said: 'I remember when the Bear costume designer said all the expensive clothes for the show were selected because they would appear sturdy on camera';

Another replied: That's also a factor! They want quality garments for scene they'll probably have to shoot a million times, and in that case, it's not far fetched for somebody like Carmy to have luxury pieces, sometimes it applies to characters, but most times it doesn't imo.
