From the outside looking in, pop groups look like a nonstop carousel of number one singles, glitzy red carpets and A-list award shows.
But often, things are not quite as rosy behind the scenes, with feuding in some of our favourite bands reaching soap opera levels of tension.
From Take That to the and more modern groups like - there has been no shortage of drama in their members' pursuit of fame and fortune.
One of the noughties most famous girl groups - The Pussycat Dolls - has announced they are back together with a reunion tour planned for this year.
Nicole Scherzinger, Ashley Roberts and Kimberly Wyatt have released a new single and are heading on the road with dates in Europe and North America.
But some of their former bandmembers have slammed the reunion and revealed they were never even asked to take part.
As a new feud takes off, Daily Mail takes a look back at some of the most famous spats in pop group history.
1. Pussycat Dolls
A feud has erupted between members of The Pussycat Dolls just hours after they announced their first global tour in 17 years on Thursday
A bitter feud has erupted between members of The just hours after they announced their first global tour in 17 years on Thursday.
Despite previously being a six-piece band, the ladies are reuniting as a trio with , 47, , 44, and , 44, preparing to head out on a massive 53-date run across the UK, Europe and North America.
But three of the bands members; Carmit Bachar, 51, Jessica Sutta, 43, and Melody Thornton, 41, have not returned for the upcoming tour.
Carmit and Jessica have now revealed they were both blindsided by the reunion and were not asked to take part.
Jessica revealed she only found out about the reunion at the same time as the rest of the world.
Asked by a fan if she was going to meet up with the rest of the Pussycat Dolls, Jessica replied: 'No, I'm not.'
'They have been planning it for a year and blatantly didn't ask Carmit and I. We are finding it all out the same time you are.'
In an Instagram post shared on March 16, Jessica said she would have 'appreciated a heads up' from her ex-bandmates.
In the post, she said: 'First of all, I want to thank everyone who has reached out with messages of support. I truly appreciate the kindness.
'I do want to clarify a few things. I was never planning to return under the current circumstances, and unfortunately I’m still unable to dance due to ongoing health issues. Because of that, the recent news was difficult for me.
'When rumors about the three girls began circulating, I did try to reach out privately for several months.
'I didn’t receive a response until the night before the announcement, which meant I didn’t have much time to prepare for the reaction that followed online.
'As many of you know, I’ve been grieving the loss of my mom while also dealing with a neurological condition where stress can trigger severe physical pain, so the intensity of the online response has been challenging.'
Setting the record straight, she continued: 'I found it ironic that the press release suggested we wanted "attention". The truth is, I wanted the exact opposite.
'The stress from situations like this causes real physical flare-ups for me. Do you think I want to be verbally attacked by strangers online?
'I simply would have appreciated a heads-up earlier so I could process everything privately and handle the situation with a bit more grace and dignity.'
To conclude her post, Jessica wished her former bandmates well, insisting there was no bad blood on her part.
She continued: 'That said, I genuinely wish the girls a successful tour and nothing but the best moving forward. I’m grateful for the experiences and memories I had with PCD, and I’ll always hold that chapter of my life close to my heart.'
The Pussycat Dolls first broke up in 2010, with Kimberly saying at the time she was 'unable to grow creatively' in the group.
Nicole went on to launch a solo career and the group reunited as a five-piece without Melody Thornton in 2019, releasing the single React. They intended to go on a reunion tour in 2020 but it was cancelled due to Covid.
2. Spice Girls
The Spice Girls 30th Anniversary tour has been axed, after the group failed to agree on plans for a comeback (pictured in 1995)
The 30th Anniversary tour has been axed, after the group failed to agree on plans for a comeback.
Bandmates , , , and had been in talks for a series of concerts to celebrate three decades since the release of their debut single Wannabe.
However, it was reported that the group couldn't come to an agreement on a reunion, and so any plans have now been ditched.
It comes weeks after it was reported that a project to celebrate the anniversary had also been cancelled, with sources claiming Geri in particular had been dragging her heels on whether to sign on.
Meanwhile, Scary Spice was notably absent from Emma Bunton's 50th birthday party last month, with the other three members of the band in attendance.
Mel B was also recently missing as the other Spice Girls members reunited at Victoria's home for a low-key singalong to Viva Forever over dinner - it was later revealed she was on her honeymoon in Mauritius with husband Rory McPhee.
An insider told The Sun: 'Their fans will be devastated. The drama has been in development for years but producers wanted to work in unison with the band. It just hasn't got to the point where the streamer has felt able to commission it.
'It doesn't mean it won't happen at some point in the future, but a big drive behind making the show was that it aired to celebrate the landmark anniversary.
'Now all hopes of that happening have been snuffed out.'
Suzanne Mackie, producer of royal drama The Crown, was developing the project, with a script being written by Jack Rooke, who won a Bafta for Channel 4 comedy Big Boys.
Tensions first became apparent in the group back in 1998 when Geri famously quit at the height of their fame - and on Mel B's birthday to boot.
'When Geri left the group, it was bad,' Mel previously said.'She left on my birthday and didn't tell anybody. She didn't show up. We had the American part of the tour to continue.'
Mel B caused further upset in 2019 by revealing on Piers Morgan's Life Stories that she and Geri enjoyed a lesbian fling during the band's Nineties heyday.
Mel told Piers: 'She's going to hate me for this because she's all posh in her country house with her husband. But it's a fact. It just happened, and we just giggled at it and that was it.'
Adding that their tryst was a one off, she said: 'She's going to kill me and so's her husband. She's not that posh now, is she?'
After a week of silence, Geri responded to Mel B's comments with a statement denying her version of events.
'It has been very disappointing to read about all these rumors again, especially on Mother's Day of all days,' a spokesperson said. 'Geri loves the Spice Girls: Emma, Melanie, Melanie and Victoria.
'She would like [the fans] to know that what has been reported recently is simply not true and has been very hurtful to her family. Moving forward, Geri can't wait to see the girls and all the fans on the tour, have an amazing time with everyone, and make some new memories.'
3. Take That
When Robbie Williams left Take That, it set off a feud between him and fellow bandmate Gary Barlow that would drag on for years
Take That were riding high in the early 90s when they burst onto the scene with their debut album Take That & Party in 1992.
But only three years later, Robbie Williams was out and so began a feud between him and fellow bandmate Gary Barlow that would drag on for years.
Gary and Robbie's factious relationship dates back to when Robbie branded his bandmate a 'clueless w****r' before quitting the band.
After Robbie left the group in 1995, the other members went on to release another single without him but split the following year.
Asked if there was any chart rivalry in the 90s between himself and Gary Barlow, Robbie told BBC Radio 2's Scott Mills: 'I made sure that there was.
'Because that's what the 90s was about. This is what was happening in my camp – I say my camp I mean my head – it's like wrestling or boxing.
'It's a contest. It's competitive. The chart in itself, when you watch Top of the Pops and you had your own several different teams and you're like ''Come on, move up! Oh it's moved down, its stayed!''
'And it's your tribe against their tribe, and my tribe was me and their tribe was Gary Barlow, and I was all up for that kind of conflict because I got some sort of kick from it.
'Unfortunately Gary didn't feel the say way and he didn't get a kick from it, because he was a well-rounded grown up that didn't need that sort of inflammation in his life. I so badly wanted him to respond in kind, but like I say, he's a well-rounded grown up.
After Robbie quit the band, the feud between himself and Gary widened when the singer branded Gary 'clueless' and said the group had 'all the creativity of morons'.
Robbie went on to to enjoy huge chart success on his own, bagging number ones singles including Angels, She's The One, Millennium and Let Me Entertain You, as well as countless awards.
Gary had three number one singles but his solo career did not match the success of Robbie's.
The relationship between the pair was healed in time, with Robbie even joining the band for single The Flood and album Progress in 2010, while making several cameos in the years following.
Of their reconciliation, Robbie explained: 'We are family. And it's like blood family for all the good and all the bad and we are intrinsically locked together on this journey on the planet. All of us - me, Jay, Howard, Mark and Gaz.
'I will always be the younger brother and he [Gary] will always be the older brother. And I did things that I'm not proud of and said things I'm not proud of as a reaction to things that I hope he's not that proud of either.
'That being said, taking the mickey out of Gary, he didn't deserve that.'
4. Girls Aloud
Girls Aloud were memorably formed on the 2002 reality series Popstars: The Rivals and perhaps the 'rivals' part was something of an omen for what was to come
Girls Aloud were memorably formed on the 2002 reality series Popstars: The Rivals and perhaps the 'rivals' part was something of an omen for what was to come.
The group enjoyed great success during their decade together including five number one singles and a Brit Awards.
But there was said to be tension between the members over who got to sing what - namely the fact that Nadine Coyle got to sing the most of all.
Nadine, widely considered the best vocalist in the group, has confirmed this herself, saying other members Cheryl, Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Wash and the late Sarah Harding were sometimes not happy that she was given the most to sing.
Speaking to the i paper in 2018, she said: 'A thing that did cause stress in the band was the fact that I was given more lines and the girls didn't like Brian [Higgins, Girls Aloud collaborator] as a result of it.
'They didn't like the label as a result of it, and they didn't like me as a result of it. So it was just circumstances which were out of my control: I didn't decide who sang what.'
In the same interview, Nadine said she had not spoken to Cheryl, Nicola or Kimberley since the end of their ten-year anniversary tour in 2013.
The band's original manager Louis Walsh claimed the girls didn't get on, telling BBC Radio 2: 'I didn't give them a lot of my time but they didn't give me time and they didn't even like each other!
'It was never going to work because I said Nadine was the best singer and she was. She was the voice of Girls Aloud.
'It was problems from day one there. I contacted them as much as I could but they didn't like each other and Nadine was the only real singer there.
There were also reports of a divide among the five members with Cheryl, Nicola and Kimberley all said to be close friends, while Nadine and Sarah felt left out.
Girls Aloud put aside their differences after Sarah's death from breast cancer in September 2021. Nadine, Cheryl, Nicola, Kimberley publicly reunited again and went on a reunion tour in tribute to her.
5. Sugababes
Formed in 1998, the original line-up of the Sugababes was Siobhan Donaghy, Mutya Beuna and Keisha Buchanan (pictured in 2025)
At one point, all original members of the group had been replaced by Jade Ewan, Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah (pictured in 2011)
It would be negligent to talk about pop group feuds without mentioning the Sugababes.
The group has enjoyed many hits over the years like Round, Round, Push The Button, and About You Now but along with their music, they are equally as well known for their numerous line-up changes.
Formed in 1998, the original line-up of the Sugababes was Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Beuna and Siobhan Donaghy.
They found success with their debut album One Touch but Siobhan then quit the band in 2001. Years later, she claimed the reason for her departure was because she was bullied by Keisha.
She told The Sun: 'There was no doubt that I was pushed out. It was clear that there was someone in that band who never wanted me in it and that's Keisha.
'She never wanted me in that band and made my life a living hell. I'll never forgive her. Though no one forgives that first bully in their lives, do they? No one does.'
Siobhan was then replaced by former Atomic Kitten member Heidi Range.
Mutya left the group four years later in 2005, citing post-natal depression following the birth of her daughter Tahlia. She was then replaced by Amelle Berrabah.
Things took a turn for the worse in 2009 when the Sugababes' sole original member Keisha Buchanan left the group, with the singer saying she was 'replaced while still being in the band'.
'I remember being sat down [in 2009] and told, 'This person feels bullied, that one there feels bullied' and I was like, "I was giving that one a foot massage legit the day before," ' she said.
Appearing on the BBC documentary Leigh-Anne: Race, Pop & Power in 2021, Keisha said the situation affected her 'emotionally, mentally' and 'financially'.
'I have confidence issues and just feeling like the whole time I couldn't have an opinion in the workplace. It's taken me years to process and I'm still in therapy,' she said.
Keisha was replaced by Eurovision singer Jade Ewan but the Sugababes split just two years later with Jade admitting they 'fizzled out'.
The original members reunited as MKS in 2013 and got their original Sugbababes name back in 2022.
6. Oasis
Noel and Liam Gallagher's fractious relationship nearly spelled an end to Oasis for good, with 30 years of backstage bust-ups, walk-outs and Twitter tirades between the siblings
Formed in the 1990s, the Britpop group rose to fame with hits like Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger and Stop Crying Your Heart Out, going on to become arguably one of the biggest bands in British music history.
But brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher's fractious relationship nearly spelled an end to Oasis for good, with 30 years of backstage bust-ups, walk-outs and Twitter tirades between the siblings.
The first notable cracks in the relationship between the pair emerged on their first American tour in 1994.
During the shows Liam frequently changed the lyrics of Noel's songs to annoy both his brother and American listeners.
The duo's fractious relationship hit an all-time low at a showcase gig at the Whiskey A Go Go in Los Angeles, infamously known as one of the band's most chaotic gigs, when Liam started to fling insults at the band.
This culminated with him chucking a tambourine at his brother, causing a furious Noel to storm off stage and disappear for a couple of days.
He eventually returned after cooling off in Las Vegas, but turned the incident into the song Talk Tonight.
During the same period, the brothers were interviewed by music mag NME when they infamously repeatedly told each other to 'f**k off' in a memorable spat.
A 14 minute audio recording of the interview with John Harris, called Wibbling Rivalry, was released the following year, showing the public an in depth look of the pair's tumultuous relationship.
The duo can be heard bickering and throwing insults at each other, with Noel comparing Liam to a football hooligan.
While Liam shoots back at Noel: 'You can stick your thousand pounds right up your f***ing a**e 'till it comes out your f***ing big toe.'
In May 2000, the two brothers got into a drunken altercation while on tour in Spain.
Things kicked off after Liam questioned the paternity of Noel's daughter, Anaïs, from his marriage to ex-wife Meg Matthews.
An enraged Noel headbutted Liam and split his lip, telling him he'd never forget or forgive him.
He then left the band for the second time and the band completed the rest of the European tour without him.
In April 2009, Noel issued the now infamous quote in an interview with Q Magazine: 'He's the angriest man you'll ever meet. He's like a man with a fork in a world of soup.'
A whole decade later, Liam responded to the quote on with a video of himself eating soup with a fork.
In the video, which is posted to thank people for buying tickets to his tour, he quipped: 'You've made a very so-called-angry man, very very happy.'
Noel and Liam finally drew a line under their long-standing feud and reunited for a blockbuster world last summer.
7. Eternal
Eternal was put together in 1992 and was made up of sisters Easther and Vernie Bennett, Kelle Bryan and Louise Redknapp (pictured in 1994)
Eternal was put together in 1992 and was made up of sisters Easther and Vernie Bennett, Kelle Bryan and Louise Redknapp, who then went by her maiden name of Nurding.
While she wasn't the strongest vocalist, Louise was very much the star of the band and became a lad's mag favourite in the 90s, posing multiple times in her underwear for the cover of FHM as well as Loaded.
At the time the Bennett sisters subtly let it be known in magazine interviews that her sexy image didn't quite sit well with them as devout Christians.
Lousie left in 1995 to release her solo album Naked, while the band carried on without her - and scored a string of hits, including their first number one.
They finally split in 2000 but reformed in 2013 as a trio - minus Louise.
The group then attempted to come together once more for a reunion tour in 2023 but relations quickly went south after both Louise and Kelle pulled out.
Vernie and Easther had reportedly refused to play any of the LBGTQ+ gigs they had scheduled over claims the community was being 'hijacked' by the trans movement.
Louise made a telling statement on Loose Women in 2024 about the row over the reunion tour, indicating the state of her relationship with the Bennett sisters.
'I would have always loved to have done a reunion with the girls,' she said. 'I have a lot of love for what we have done together and me and Kelle are still the best of friends.'
Vernie seemingly refuted the claims made by Louise's team as she released a statement about how she has been 'blessed to connect with so many diverse and wonderful people from all walks of life during my career.'
Vernie released a statement which read: 'I am "Eternally" grateful for the family, friends, and amazing fans who have and continue to support our incredible journey and artistry.
'I've been blessed to connect with so many diverse and wonderful people from all walks of life during my career. You all have a piece of my heart.
'Though it is impossible and counterproductive to respond to the overwhelming number of statements and allegations made online recently, I place this moment in God's hands.
'I truly appreciate all who continue to express love and support for my family and Eternal.'
Eternal's original manager furiously defended Easther and Vernie, who remain his clients, previously insisting they are 'devastated' and accusing Louise's team of misrepresenting details of a private email.
He told : 'Louise and her team have thrown them under the bus and everyone is totally appalled at their bullying behaviour by totally misrepresenting the situation to suit their own agenda.
'The girls sent an email to Louise's camp saying they loved playing Pride, and they loved the ethos of the event.
'For her camp to go on the record suggesting they are homophobic is utterly outrageous. This is nothing about gay rights.'
Speaking to The Mirror, Denis also claimed there were no confirmed, or contracted dates, in place for the reunion. Louise's team have denied this to the publication.
He claimed that the sisters sent an email to Louise's camp saying they 'loved' playing Pride and the 'ethos of the event.'
Denis added that the dispute is 'nothing about ,' and that the sisters have played 'numerous LGBTQ+ gigs.'
He added: 'Vernie said she had some concerns about the Pride movement being hijacked - and she is not alone - but this has now been weaponized against her, with Louise's team trying to get her cancelled.'
Louise's publicist Simon Jones stated that they stand by their previous comments, telling the publication: 'Denis Ingoldsby was not involved in the discussions about the Eternal reunion including all four members over the last two years. Easther and Vernie can try and dress this up however they wish.
'The fact remains that the duo said they would only do the Eternal reunion if no Pride or LGBTQ+ festivals were included.
'Louise would obviously not agree to excluding the LGBTQ+ community from their touring plans. We as a team absolutely do not agree with dividing the LGBTQ+ community or excluding trans people.'
He added: 'Absolutely nothing has been misrepresented.
'We have simply explained the reason why the Eternal reunion is not going ahead with Louise and Kelle.
'It is a fact that an email was sent saying that Vernie and Easther would only do the Eternal reunion if no Pride or LGBTQ+ festivals were included in the plan.
'Louise would obviously not agree to , and as such notified the duo that she would not be taking part.'
Louise addressed her decision to step down from the tour by sharing the Progress Pride Flag on her Instagram Stories, writing: 'Always and forever'.
Vernie and Esther later recruited new member Christel Lakhdar to the group, with only two of the original foursome remaining.
8. Little Mix
Jesy Nelson (right) announced she was quitting Little Mix in December 2020 and would become estranged from her former bandmates for years
Jesy Nelson announced she was quitting in December 2020 after nine years in the group, citing the heavy impact on her mental health.
Thus began an estrangement with her former bandmates Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards that would last years.
After Jesy's 2020 departure, the three remaining members of Little Mix continued as a trio before going their separate ways last year.
In 2021, Jesy revealed her first solo single, Boyz, and confirmed that she was no longer in contact with her bandmates.
Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, she said: 'We're not talking any more. It is sad but honestly there is no bad blood from my side, and I still love them to pieces and genuinely wish them all the best.
'I loved my time with them, and we've got the most incredible memories together, but it's just one of those things which needs to take time, so who knows. xTo me they are still the sickest girl band in the world.'
At the time Jesy was at the centre of huge drama, after Leigh-Anne accused her of blackfishing in the music video for Boyz in leaked messages with influencer NoHun.
Jesy's Boyz collaborator Nicki Minaj then branded her former bandmates 'jealous clowns' on a barbed Instagram live.
A source claimed that while Jesy was 'aware' of the leaked DMs from Leigh-Anne she wanted to keep 'quiet' to avoid a social media spat.
Perrie later wrote a song called Same Place Different View for her debut solo album which was about the end of her close friendship with Jesy.
However, an olive branch was extended earlier this year when Jesy said all her former bandmates reached out to her after she revealed her twind daughters were diagnosed with spinal muscular dystrophy (SMA), a rare genetic condition that can cause muscle weakness.
Speaking on This Morning, Jesy said it was 'very healing' to be back in touch with them.
She explained: 'Three of us are mums now, we've all had time to heal, it's been nearly six years, and it's just one of those things that takes time.
'Since they've been reaching out it's definitely healed a part of me, for sure.'
Reflecting on leaving the band, the mother-of-two added: 'It wasn't that I didn't enjoy being in the band, it was the constant comparison and the scrutiny that I used to get. it was all the time and it never left me.
'I don't wanna be like, "I hated my time in Little Mix", because I had the time of my life... but that part I never got over. That wasn't making me internally happy.
She later continued: 'As dark as this sounds, I got to a point where I felt, "Am I going to ever feel happy again?" But I am happy.'
9. The Police
They were one of the greatest bands of the 1980s who changed the sound of rock music until their dramatic split - but The Police are still clashing nearly five decades later
They were one of the greatest bands of the 1980s who changed the sound of rock music until their dramatic split - but The Police are still clashing nearly five decades later.
Legendary frontman Sting is being sued for millions of pounds in lost royalties by his former bandmates, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland.
It is well-documented that the new wave band, who formed in London back in 1977, didn't break up cleanly, succinctly or definitively.
In fact, their astronomical success was achieved in a relatively short space of time, with their last tour, the 105-show run for their Synchronicity album, ending in 1984 with no farewell to each other or to the fans.
Sting, who once joked the band began as a democracy before spiralling into a 'benign dictatorship' by the end, felt they had reached their personal 'Everest' and should quit while riding the wave.
In a Rolling Stone interview in 1983, he admitted: 'It's not an easy relationship, by any means. We're three highly autonomous individuals, and a band is an artificial alliance most of the time.
'There are obviously tensions, but I think there's a great love between us and a genuine respect. I can't think of two musicians I'd rather play with. But none of us is easy to work with. It's not all buddy-buddy, and never was.'
When asked how the group arrived at decisions, he added: 'Violence... I'll argue till the cows come home about something I believe in, and so will Andy and Stewart. Synchronicity went through all kinds of horrendous cogs and gears to come out, emotionally and technically, the way it did.'
In 1986, The Police officially disbanded as the group exploded into resentment and anger, with Sting going on to launch a solo career.
Their personal gripes were by no means kept behind closed doors. The band members went public with their problems with back-handed jokes in the studio and even during interviews.
Copeland previously described Sting as an egotist, narcissist and misanthrope, who 'not only hates humanity, but every human within the species apart from his own family and has an ego so large it is visible from the moon'.
The recording of Synchronicity - their fifth and final studio album - was fractious, with in-fighting leading to them recording parts in different rooms.
In his book, Police Diaries 1976-9, which recounts the band's rise to stardom, the American drummer admits: 'We love each other but we're not birds of a feather. If he's having a serene moment, I'm going to walk in and spill some beer on it.
'If I'm hanging out with my friends enjoying some simple-minded entertainment and he comes in, suddenly I'm not funny any more and the whole situation is trivial.'
The pair met in 1976 when Copeland, then a member of the British prog-rock band Curved Air, had a tour break in Newcastle and went to watch Sting's band Last Exit.
They achieved greatness alongside Summers, propelled to fame by hits including Every Breath You Take (1983) and Message in a Bottle (1979). But they only released five albums during their time together.
Marking their 30th anniversary in 2007-08, The Police did put their feud on ice for a hugely lucrative reunion tour with 152 shows over the world from Europe to South America.
Copeland has gone onto compose for film, TV, opera, ballet and gaming - but he will forever be most famous for his time with The Police.
Despite adding endless strings to his bow, Copeland's estimated net worth is a modest $80million compared to the $550million Sting has achieved through his songwriting royalties.
That is perhaps why Sting found himself at the centre of an explosive legal battle, launched by his own bandmates.
Sting has paid his former bandmates £600,000 since they started suing him over unpaid streaming royalties.
He disputed the wider legal claim, arguing that the arranger's fees should only apply to physical products such as vinyl and cassettes.
The star is believed to earn £550,000 a year in royalties from smash hit Every Breath You Take alone, the fifth best-selling song of the 1980s.
Bandmates Mr Summers and Mr Copeland, however, were not handed songwriting credits on the single.
In previous court documents filed in December 2024, Ian Mill KC, for Mr Copeland and Mr Summers said Sting's former bandmates are owed more than $2 million (£1.49 million) because arranger's fees had not been paid from money generated through streaming.
He also said Mr Copeland and Mr Summers understand the 2016 agreement means they are entitled to a share of money 'from all publishing income derived from all manner of commercial exploitation'.
A trial is expected at a later date.
