A Channel Seven journalist’s embarrassing run in with the police has been caught on camera.

Watchers cringed as the eager journalist was ushered along by police officials outside Melbourne Cricket Ground before the big AFL game between Carlton and Richmond on Thursday.

In the clip, the journo could be seen chatting to some footy fans, who were laden with black and white Carlton scarves as they entered the venue.

The reporter instructed the footy fans to get closer and cheer for the camera, hyping them up from the sidelines.

But once they had finished the segment, a policeman approached the journalist and hurried her away as her cameraman watched on.

She could be seen tapping the cop on the arm as he urged her to move along, resulting in her jogging away.

Channel Seven has been in the headlines the past few weeks as a number of female reporters have left the network.

Laura Spurway, who joined Channel Seven in 2021, is the latest star to be booted.

The sports reporter’s head rolled at the end of February, with news of the axing related by the journalist in an internal email.

‘Hi team, just letting you all know I’ve finished up today after being told my contract isn’t being renewed,’ the email read, as reported by the Herald Sun.

‘Apologies I’m not able to see everyone in person but thank you for your help and guidance over the past four years’ the email continued.

‘I wish you all the best in your travels at Seven, Laura.’

The reporter is believed to have been axed to make room for Xander McGuire who has joined the sports team.

The Herald Sun reports that the move, along with other high profile sackings of senior female staffers, have resulted in some insiders raising concerns that the network may become a ‘boys’ club’.

It comes after sports presenter Abbey Gelmi announced she will be leaving Channel Seven after almost two years in the role.

Gelmi has been weekend sport newsreader since April 2022, but she told the Herald Sun that she ‘will be moving on to the next chapter’.

‘I’ve had so many incredible opportunities at Seven but it’s the right time for the next chapter,’ she said.

‘I’m forever grateful for the experience and life long friends gained.’

Gelmi, who was announced as the new host of ABC’s Offsiders, explained it was a ‘mutual decision to part ways’.

Director of Seven News Chris Salter added: ‘From the Olympics, to the AFL, cricket, motorsport and horse racing — Abbey has covered it all.’

‘She’s the ultimate all rounder and leaves Seven with some lifelong friends. We know she’ll be a success in whatever she chooses to do next.’
