Holmes, 66, was taken ill last Tuesday while on annual leave.
He remained in hospital last night with girlfriend Katie Alexander, 44, believed to be at his side.
Yesterday a GB News spokesman said: 'Eamonn was taken ill last week and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke. He is currently responding well to treatment.
'Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better. His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the People's Channel when he is ready to return.'
Father-of-four Holmes had been absent from his GB News breakfast show, which he co-hosts with Ellie Costello, since March 11.

On that date he appeared to fall asleep live on air, before playing with his microphone and mobile phone as colleagues and viewers looked on in astonishment.
In May last year he fell off his chair during a live interview with Charlie Rowley, former special adviser to Michael Gove.

Colleagues have questioned whether Eamonn Holmes will be well enough to return to work
Ms Costello could be heard saying 'oh my gosh' as a loud crash came from off-screen, before Holmes exclaimed: 'I'm fine, fine, fine, carry on, carry on.'
Bosses at GB News are facing mounting pressure over Holmes, with colleagues increasingly frustrated by their flagship host's on-air antics.
Several presenters have said they could do a more professional job while female colleagues complain they have to carry him through erratic, disjointed discussions.
One said: 'Eamonn is really struggling. He has always been hard work. Now he's unwell and tired, it's becoming so difficult.
'The hours are gruelling and tough, Eamonn is not in the best health so the earlier mornings are really, really hard.

'The problem he has is that he needs the money. But is he really up to working? Maybe not.'
Holmes has faced serious health problems for years, including having a double hip replacement operation in 2016, plus three slipped discs, a dislocated pelvis and major spinal surgery in 2022.
He then had major spinal surgery the following year and has had various other health issues over the past few years.
The former GMTV anchor is in the middle of a bitter divorce battle with Ruth Langsford after they split up almost two years ago.
The couple are understood to be selling their £2.4million home in Weybridge, Surrey.
