Dwight Yoakam Faces Flight Emergency After Mechanical Failure

Country legend Dwight Yoakam revealed a terrifying flight emergency he experienced which caused a major delay at a recent performance.

The 69-year-old singer — who is known for hit tracks such as I Sang Dixie — shared a statement to his main Instagram page on Monday to offer an explanation as to why he arrived late to his concert last Thursday in Lubbock, Texas.

The music artist began by sending an apology to fans before giving a detailed account of the incident. 

Yoakam penned that he had just learned that the 'circumstances surrounding my delayed arrival' was shared to the crowd through 'a vague PA announcement.' 

The Grammy winner wrote, 'What actually happened Thursday afternoon was that we had an emergency takeoff abort as the aircraft was about to lift off from the runway due to a mechanical failure warning in the cockpit.'

However, the performer shared that the outcome had been positive because of the 'exceptional professional skill' of the pilots.

'And they were able to avoid anything more dangerous or catastrophic occurring.' 

But due to the issue with the plane not being able to be fixed at the time, Yoakam and those with him had to go on a different aircraft.

The singer was able to get to Lubbock for the performance but was over an hour late at his originally scheduled time of 9:00pm. 

'Again I want to express my sincere apologies to all of the fans in attendance that evening that the announcement about the reason for the show's delay was not made from "onstage" more clearly and respectfully.' 

In conclusion, he added, 'I am very sorry for any frustration and disappointment the delay caused.' 

Social media users jumped to the comment section of the post to applaud the star's apology while others called him a 'class act.' 

One penned, 'The communication was not the best, but none the less we were made aware of the situation. We were assured the show would go on, it was just going to be delayed.'

'The important thing is you and the band are safe,' one shared and an Instagram user commented, 'I'm glad yall are safe. That's the number one priority.'

Yoakam is currently on his Live in Concert tour which kicked off in Lubbock on February 12. 

His next date is slated for February 19 in Mobile, Alabama before other stops in states such as Georgia and South Carolina. The final concert will take place on March 6 in Durant, Oklahoma.

But Yoakam has a busy year ahead of him with a second tour also slated to begin in March. 

He will join ZZ Top for the Dos Amigos Tour which will hold its first show on March 26 in Brookings, South Dakota. 

The concerts will officially come to a close with a May 23 performance in Huntington, West Virginia.

'We delayed the release of the album by about six months,' the country legend recalled to Billboard while discussing his collaboration with Malone. 

'I didn't realize Post came in [to record his vocal] between days of shooting the video he did with Taylor Swift [Fortnight]. We rescheduled the album release because we decided it was something we wanted to put on the album.'
